Mission Discussion: Gaichu & Elders
:Spoilers for the Serial Killer Mission:

Is it possible to both get Gaichu to join your squad and end the Elder's mission without a blood-bath? I think I was able to track down every piece of evidence, except for being able to go into the Garage further past the gang members (chose not to kill them, RPGing someone who doesn't get dirty unless needed). If I had KO'd them (or had the right dialogue options) would I have been able to have the best of both worlds?

I'm not really surprised at my outcome (nor bothered by it), more just idle curiousity for the next play-through.

Thanks in advance, hope you guys are enjoying the game too!

I did it just fine. Investgate every angle of the case so you can poke holes in all of their excuses, never choose to begin the fight. If you have everything: The locket, the armor piece, and the evidence of the missing goods, the seciurity chief will side with you and the elders make no move to fight you.

Seeing as the chief is loaded for bear with top of the line cybernetics, it's no shocker they won't fight if he's on your side of the discussion.

You can have everything and still pick "wrong" conversation choices where the guy will basically say "while the eldars were wrong, Gaichu must still die". IIRC, need to focus on choices that specifically call out the painless deaths he tried to provide.

I probably had a bug dialog than, since i literally worked down my dialog choices in the sequence, where you might try to arrest the elders and got away without any blood spilled. All dialog options where only telling the facts i discovered.
Sure you weren´t missing something?

Oh yeah, the other point of evidence is to make sure you determine that the murder scenes were all clearly doctored to look horrific.

You have to find more evidence in the garage, I'm afraid. I was able to talk my way past the gangsters in there, but I think that might have been due to the Gang etiquette.

Just for ♥♥♥♥♥ and giggles I had a save back near that point. Merc'd up the gangers and found the armor piece info, had it analyzed, and then realized what I had initially missed was discussing with Porter how the killings weren't brutal intentionally (I had just done the third [and last] dialogue choice before-hand). Not sure if in retrospect the armor piece would have still been needed, but nice to see the "better" ending.

Nah, I wasn't missing anything. I reloaded and did the conversation again and ended it without any bloodshed based on a few different dialog picks, so it's possible to give a sub-par argument even with all evidence. What's weird is, i'm pretty sure my first time through I was just clicking from the top down as well, assuming it would have me say everything possible. I could be wrong though.

You DO need to collect the armor piece in the parking garage (and have it analyzed by the clothier). Either kill the gangers or talk your way past.

This will provide a bit more evidence Gaichu was the HKPD target in order to convince Porter.

You don't actually need the armor. You can still prove your case without it assuming you got all the other evidence.

EDIT: Also I don't know how you can even fail to end the mission peacefully if you explore everywhere and find everything, even on my first time. You have to intentionally choose to escalate the situation in order to start a fight.

I'm pretty sure that, if you bring Is0bel, Gobbet and Duncan, and have a biotech skill of 3, you should be able to find all the required pieces of evidence rather easily. You can also bring Racter instead of Gobbet if you happen to be a Shaman yourself, who will then make the biotech check for you. I've only played through the game once, though, so I'm not sure how muny redundancies there are.

Well on my 1st playthru, and on most I will take I say kill Gaichu. This is the logic of why.

You are only recently employed by a Triad associated person. Chances are that you took this job 1st of the intial set of 3, since stopping a serial killer seems most pressing. You are still being tested, and only starting to build a reputation. The only sensible conlusion in such a light is to finish the job.

A shadowrunner who bails or clusterdreks thier 1st mission out in a new city, is not gonna last in that place long. Finding a peaceful solution is okay, but from a logical roleplay persective, why risk it?

Comes down to the principle, of always finishing the job hired for.

There will be a few run thrus thou where he lives. I think when I do my mage playthru, (who I always end up making an academic), I will make sure he's around, and probally another character when I feel like.

HOW TO GET GAICHU & NOT KILL THE ELDERS

You need to get all the evidence for all scenes (duh!) except of at least one. (I didn't do the biotech check on tong's body)

What some may forget cause its a little confusing:
There is Magpie's Shop, and Magpie's Stockroom.
You need to get into the shop for two parts of evidence.
To get the key from the elders, you need to find Magpie's necklace down in the sewers. Don't worry, you can give it to the elders and use it as evidence later.

So for those confused about how to do this, let me state exactly what needs to be done for others who had trouble from all the non-explanations in this thread:

You will need virtually every piece of evidence, save using Biotech skills to check the bodies injuries, but you will need to investigate them to find out that they were not tortured.

You will need the piece of armor from the garage. If you can't get around the gangers, you must kill them to investigate the armor piece and have it inspected by the clothing lady in the place where the elders are.

You must have every optional part completed and only thing remaining saying to confront the elders.

During the conversation with the elders, pick the top options first as each one will explain a piece of evidence towards one of the discrepancies in their story and then let you proceed to the next available evidence afterwards, without cutting off the dialogue and moving on to the next discrepancy without explaining other evidence you had.

After explaining each piece of evidence, only then will you be able to have the guy side with you against the elders and not pursue killing Gaichu.

Zemnex, if you later get to the bonus campaign, please use my guide and leave a comment or criticism for me ok? Thanks.

@Zem: You can miss 1 piece of evidence, but that is it. Best quest resolutions in SR follow the "all minus 1" formula.

Examining Tong's body and shop can be done by your team mates.

More crucially, HK was rather buggy on release, which is when most posts were written.
