Panel Code in First Run
In the first run where you go to give a message to Bao there's a panel in the underground part by the arms dealer. How do you find the code for this? And what is the code?

I didn't think to write down the code, but you get it if you have astral perception. If you're a caster, or if you bring Gobbet with you, you'll be able to talk to a spirit near the marketplace. It will automatically give you the code to the door.

It's basically just an alternate way to get into Bao's headquarters, for players who didn't bring a decker with them. The only real difference is that you get one extra fight (two hellhounds) and one extra loot drop (50 or so nuyen). It's more profitable to go the decker route, because then you get some extra paydata.

Ahh nice, good thing my dude in this playthrough is a decker so I brought gobbet. Got an extra karma from opening that door

One thing I did notice about locked doors this time is that several of the coded door locks actually seem to have multiple possible codes. I started writing down some of the codes I got later in the game, but then I realized that they were sometimes different when I replayed the same area. Tricky tricky. :P

lol, all the codes are stored in the Mission items part for your reference during the mission.

Anywho, the Security Override code and Bao's personal code both seems able to open the door to his Headquarter

Not always true. Some of them are automatically removed from your mission items list once you've already opened the door, presumably to reduce the clutter on the list. It doesn't happen on every mission, but it definitely happens on some of them (such as the second-to-last mission, which is a particularly long one).

There's a second coded door in the lower area.

I was hoping this was about that instead.

It is. You get the code for the middle door by having a decker/is0bel and the code for the western door by having a mage/gobbet.

One can be opened using decking, the other can be opened using astral perception. They basically set it up that way so that you'll always be able to open at least one of them, since you'll be accompanied by either Gobbet (for astral perception) or Is0bel (for decking). You can theoretically open both of them, but that requires a player character who can either deck or astrally perceive.

I think I may have found a glitch.

In the Character Creation screen, I selected a custom build, to create a combined Mage/Adept.

My Spellcasting is level 3, but I cannot use Astral Perception to open the western door.

Is there something I'm missing, or is this something the developers may have overlooked?

...do you people really not check the Guide section or smth...

Also IIRC you got the code from a dead man's spirit you can call up with a few levels of Summoning in the marketplace.

Late answer, but will write it anyway since I was looking for this specific code as well, and others might come looking.

The door code, and the others:

2580 - The terminal at the bottom level. It allows you to access the room with the Matrix access and to open the manhole, to the Strangler Bao's secret passage.

5465 - Password to the secret room, that you can use to get to Bao's building.

7881 - Password to Strangler Bao's room.

Found it here:

Artorias' Guide gives you all the passcodes if you want them. It's obviously a spoiler and you ought to be well able to get through the game w/o it. Usually you'd be hard pressed to find all passcodes on your 1st playthrough, since many are barred by skill requirements. It's basically cheating to simply look them up...
That said it's a good guide. You'd eventually find them all out if you replay the game. The game accomodates for that and doesn't allow you to break the game by knowing passcodes. I'd say it's more a thing about cheating yourself: It's supposed to be fun to find out all the secrets ;)

If you really want to go there you might as well check Kyopo Von Elsass' "Complete items" guide. Although there's some minor inconveniences (stat requirements not shown, details) it's still a very good overview.
Thing is: SRHK has you on a budget. Personally I did not use any guides on my 1st playthrough, but I had a plan as to how I'd spent my nuyen anyway. That's certainly an advantage, since wasting money is a big NO-NO in Hong Kong.
