Just a shame that she kind of sucks, from a character build standpoint. By the end of the game, she was only hitting with one out of every four shots. :P
I don't really care for Is0bell and Duncan. Is0bell is kinda whiney. She's good in combat at least. So I bring her along.
Duncan is just an Eiger clone.
I don't dislike any of them though. I'm just not a big Duncan/Is0Bell fan.
Well, I use her for spells when I can, but those all have cooldowns. I also use her for spirits when I can, but those have very limited availability throughout the game. Unfortunately, that means she has a whole lot of leftover Action Points that get blown on her shooting at nothing with her submachine gun.
Gobbet is adorable and entertaining as hell, even if shes filthy. And ive actually found her fairly useful in team settings purely as a spellcaster and summoner.
Also hasting Gaichu in heaven stance, everything dies so quick. Hes so savagely powerful, i love that ghoul.
Is0bel is the resident Decker, so she's invaluable if you're not playing a decker yourself.
Gobbet is cool, but like all shamans she's kind of bad. I feel like this is a result of the Astral never making it into the game in any meaningful way.
Duncan is a slightly better and slightly worse Eiger. He's good for hosing fools down with full-auto.
I haven't actually gotten into a fight with Gaichu, but he's probably an unstoppable killing machine.
Duncan: Most useful in combat but has all the personality of bran flakes.
Gobbet: Second best personality, bloody useless in combat (sorry I just cant find a use for shamans)
Is0bel: average.
Gaichu: Not bad in combat but needs more dodge/armor/hp.
Carter: Feels like she would have been interesting, sadly we will never really know.
After that it's pretty much all of them, great character writing. Maximum Law had me laughing so hard throughout even if he isn't a companion.
I consider Racter as en evil psycho since my first discussion w/ him, never runned together and fired him as soon as he suggested.
I killed Raichu after a little talk... Seemed cool for a ghul but... he's still a ghul !
*rp extremist*
That being said, I love Gobbet & Is0bel. Duncan is fun too. Can't name a fav between the 2 ladies, I guess... The first one who will accept to sleep w/ me? *.*
smgs overall feel pretty weak though. I usually keep her hasting and healing, and ocasionally pulling enemies out of cover with the flush smg skill so isobel can drop them with her ridiculously strong pistol.
As for favorites.. full disclosure, I got a bit of a thing for Gobbet, rats' nest and all. She's got an awesome personality, along with natural flaws and realistic baggage that understandably colors her character, but doesn't incite her to mope about like a self-loathing imbecile.
But despite my bias for her, Racter's just downright -fascinating-, could see him being a great anti-hero or circumstantial enemy, but one with mutual respect and genuine intelligence, and it's the fact that while he is very well educated, articulate, skilled and accomplished, he rarely (maybe never) condescends the MC and speaks to them as an equal. He also readily acknowledges his failings regarding mysticism, yet even so respects and embraces the possibilities it can offer his research. Also, like Madness and Folly, I totally dig his relationship with his.. well, "child".
Gaichu is also great, I enjoy Is0bella's Matrix personality and Duncan.. you know, he wears the "matured sidekick" hat well enough. I enjoy that he's a heavy that isn't brick-dense: he actually -listens- to you when you make it a point to go into y'all's past.
Enjoyment all around, really, but Gobbet and Racter get the most fist-bumps. Is0bella by proxy, since I need a Decker in every run.
is0bel: Meh, I usually play as a decker too (somewhat). I never bring her along unless she's undroppable in a mission.
Duncan: Like someone alluded to earlier, he has all the personality of a turnip. An Eiger replacement that simply moped around the boat all of the time. His combat ability is pretty good, but there are more entertaining characters to bring along for a shadowrun.
Racter: An evil psycho mad scientist of a Russian? Join up! His robo-pal/killing machine helps out a bit too. Together, they outshine Duncan.
Gaichu: Everyone's favorite Zombie/Samurai/Killing Machine. Armed with the Emperor Sword, together with my samurai adept with his Distant Storms Foretold sword, the battlefield becomes stunlock city.
My preferred crew: Racter, Gaichu and Gobbet.
1st: she's cute
2nd: she's not "whiny", all her "fresh memories" story is well built and ANYONE would have complained about it at first... Still she took the hit for the team and (at least where I am) managed to stay strong.
3rd: she's not as cold as you seem to think and actually finding the lines that will keep her in a good mood is quite interesting (when Gobbet, that I also like, is more like "Yeah I'm cool and all that, but I don't really care about what you say to me)
I don't know, I really like the dwarf... I'm weird right? I knew that... :/
(and yes, her matrix shape is DOPE ! )
My team: always Gobbet, Is0 & Duncan, except once I took Eos(? The Felicia Day doppleganger) instead of Gun Show
ps: reading your messages, I feel like Racter & Gaichu are both pure killing machines... Well, I play in hard and I never needed those freaky monsters :P Eat that, chums !
1. Gobbet, but it seems her personality development is becoming a bit weak so it can change.
Pure mission team design:
1. Gobbet, efficient and because she is 1 in previous section.
2. Duncan
EDIT: Is0bel is certainly very cute but she is a closed character, a little bit like Glory, but for me Glory had something interesting that triggered my curiosity, and Is0bel hasn't it yet, but I guess dig it and have her more open could change the picture.
But Is0bel mission which is the first companion mission I got, was sort of epic even if bizarre too. :-) Great mission.
