Or not.
And then,he ends it welcoming you to the shadows...
As we know ambrose has tons of implants, thus his essence must be at limit, as a result of low essence he must not feel anything, but as we can see he is pretty sensetive guy.
His escape from being a cripple was BTL person, my theory
Both of them admited losing half of their bodies, but Racter was not affected by loss of an essence because of being psycho. As for Ambrose, he was constantly providing Matthew with "slow" BTL chips, that give you real expirience of another person, rather that fake from usual BTLs. So I think Ambrose in order to run away from past haunting him just erased his personality with BTLs
The astral connection in particular really really implies this.
"She pushed the blade right through, and out along her trachea. Sliced through everything outside of that. Severed her own carotid artery.
Just like she was removing a sentry.
That was it. Don--
Ambrose stops. He holds his hand over this mouth, for a long moment. When he continues, his voice is thick.
She did it right there, on the operating table. There wasn't even a thump."
Also, talking about what *really* happened to his team:
If I had any part in the end of the crew... well, I've paid with almost everything. It's still less than oth--
"Ambrose is suddenly overcome with emotion. It seems to catch him by surprise. His poker face cracks in an agonal grimace, and tears well up in his eyes."
And then, if you tell him "All messed up, in hiding, and alone... you don't sound lucky to me." he will reply with this line:
"Ambrose's voice is flinty. His eyes are clear and unwavering.
I'm not alone."
I suppose that "oth--" stand for others, but what do you think he was saying with that "Don--"?
Possibly that "almost everythin" + "I'm not alone" + other lines, suggest that his son is still living somewhere and he try to protect him.
