There is a matrix section with paydata in that mission that you're going to miss due to your lack of a deck though, unless you want to bring Is0bel.
Sigh so I'm screwed up with my level 4 decking, I wish I could bash some designers faces, not that I'll have the balls to ever do it, but imagine it temper a bit the frustration.
How the hell I would take Isobel when my character is firstly a decker??? Yeah I didn't noticed he had no deck.
You can circumvent the first mission by taking Is0bel along and making her do the decking bit, and you can still get the +1 karma if you put the code 5465 onto the smugglers door that you'd get if you had assensing or brought Gobblet.
In total theres four extra karma checks in the Strangler mission;
Charisma 3 and Etiquette Gang to convince the guards to let you pass +1 karma
Repair the feng shui +1 karma
Either know code, have spirit summoning or bring Gobblet to get through the animal smugglers door +1 karma
Etiquette Shadowrunner, unarmed 4 or strenght 4 to get the homeless guy back his nuyen +1 karma
And then the bonus for not killing anyone.
You dont get extra karma for going through the decking phase, but you do get paydata worth 300 nuyen.
That would explain it, since nobody who min/maxes ever takes ESP control.
There was no point in doing so back when the Matrix was a combat-slog, why would you do it when it's a stealth game?
I can verify that ESP control is -not- needed to receive a deck. I've made a decker twice (Restarting once, see) with 0 ESP control but a good chunk of decking to start with, and received my crappy Sony both times.
I don't agree I don't remind this bug in either DF or SRR, but it's possible I started with no weapon and instead a deck and a drone. But eventually it's been changed.
For my HK character, I had Deck 4, Drone 3, Shotgun 4, and get a drone and a shotgun.
