Cyberware - melee or unarmed?
As the title says, do cyberware weapons (hand razors, etc.) benefit from unarmed or melee weapon skills?

It says right in the descriptions of the stats.

Hand razors/spurs - close combat for hit, cyberware for crit

Whip - ranged combat for hit - cyberware for crit.

Unarmed and melee have nothing to do with them, cyberware gives the skills that these use.

Good question, I have no idea what to invest in. Wanted to play some unarmed addept, but those cyber weapons are interesting and I want to try them out.

Thanks, so do you recommend to go full cyberware and forget about unarmed/melee lines?
Also what do you think about Qi casting paired with this, at least 2-3 points?

The hand razors are basically Glory from Dragonfall - you get her old moves. I dunno about the whips cuz I haven't seen them, and you can't start with them (which is mildly annoying).

You get bonus essence from the cyberware line, so chi casting would probably work well with it. I'm curious if you can equipmultiple pieces of cyberware to similar areas (multiple chest pieces) do to the revamp.

Don't know about the rest, but killing hands doesn't stack with cyberware damage (was the first thing I tried).
So most probably you can only pick up the defensive stuff, I don't know if that worths so many points in WP though...

I figure Qi is still worth it for Stride at the very least.

It would be very strange if it did.

I'm more concerned that it seems this is a third type of close combat weapon. So not your unarmed or your armed Qi skills will work.

It is. It has nothing to do with unarmed and melee.

I personally thought the game was pretty clear on this.

Why would it be clear? There's no mention anywhere how physical adepts interact with cyberweapons and it would be pretty logical to still do magic kung-fu with metal claws (which you can do in pen and paper as far as I know).

I also don't see Qi Focus, is it taken out of the game?

I can't find a way to put away claws though (it goes to #1 slot where everyone else has unarmed). So at this point it's pretty illogical to me why it isn't considered unarmed - there's no way for someone that's equipped with claws to use Qi unarmed bonuses.

No it's absolutely not.

It's a completely reasonable and also extremely important for character creation. I thought that was glaring right from the start.

Counter Strike works just fine with cyberweapons, Use it with my whip all the time. For gameplay reasons I can understand why cyberweapons don't benefit from killing hands, but I wouldn't call it strange for thinking its possible.

Something of a necro but years later this helped me realise I wasted my points on unarmed and cyberware. Thanks all!

This. If you have surgically-implanted claws and an ability that affects your "unarmed" attacks, it's only logical that ability affects your attacks made with those claws, which you can't put down because they're now part of your body. Different story if you had a shotgun for an arm; that's obviously a ranged weapon. And a whip is obviously a melee weapon. But in my experience, most games treat claws/gauntlets as "unarmed" attacks.

And just to echo the sentiment: the game is absolutely not clear in explaining that cyberwear definitely does not count as "unarmed," even though once you have cyberwear you can no longer make unarmed attacks. So if you have a cyberwear weapon, spending even one point in unarmed is apparently a complete waste.
