Bounty for killing vampires?
In-game dialog indicates that there's a bounty for killing vampires. I just killed a vampire. How do I collect the bounty?

The mission I just completed is Exit, Stage Left.

This is my only vampire encounter so far, so if there are other vampire encounters, please don't spoil them for me :-)

It's more of a lore thing, the entire world hates the bloodsucking undead, and there is a bounty, true... But... why would someone who is currently running from the law with their own bounty on their head try to claim another?

There is also a bounty on Ghouls for the most part, like Gaichu, but there is no way to claim your bounty beyond what you get paid for the mission.

There is no bounty on Vampires. You also blew it if you killed her, although the results are not nearly as disasterous to your game as killing Gaichu.

If you let her live, you can have Gaichu teach her how to be a "better monster". You get one extra karma, are eligible for the "monster squad" achievement, and she will help you out for 4-5 combats during the end of game Walled City run against the Yama King.

Thanks. I think Harebrained could have gone either way with allowing the bounty. Like you two said, it's hard to collect, but...
  • Most of your money is already acquired through a third-party broker (Kindly Cheng for main missions; Shadowlands BBS for paydata). The game doesn't explicitly say how the bounties on undead work; only that they exist. If the game had given me my bounty, I would have assumed that I got one of my underworld contacts to collect it for me (and keep a percentage as a handling fee).
  • In terms of RPG reward schedules, it's a reasonable either-or reward: Either get the story consequences of letting the vampire live, or collect your blood money.

On the other hand:
  • It's just as plausible that the bounty on undead is small enough and/or difficult enough to collect (maybe you need a hunting license?) so as not to be worth the effort.

Anyway, I'm glad to know that the lack of bounty is an actual thing and not just some weird bug I encountered. Thanks!

It's still weird that, after I role-played it as though I wanted the bounty, my character forgot all about the bounty, to the point where I couldn't even bring it up in dialogue.

Also, most or all of the bounties on undead are government issued, and you're out of friends who are on good terms with the Hong Kong government.
