Is there a way to save Persi and keep thousands of trogs from dying, too?

Yeah, I managed to do so. Told corp elf to stuff it and then raced to save Persi, and no trogs died. Don't know if that's supposed to happen or if I did something special though. I did get the ending where you don't side with the MPA or the corp, eradicate Hemlock, be friends with everyone and still have Persi survive. Now I'm really interested in finding out just how many ending variations there are.

How do you get out of the submarine near the beginning? I wasn't able to open the locked doors and couldn't find a way to progress.

Yes. It's not hard. just tricky. You need to walk around the sub a few times for events to trigger.

I eventually figured out you have to type the crew names into a computer for this to happen.
