Chip's Challenge 1
Cant't run
Okay I'm having some difficulty here.

OS is Windows XP Sp3.

Every time I try to start the game through steam I get 'Failed to start game - Unknown error"

When I try running the game directly from the folder via the exe file. its says
"file is not a valid win32 application"

I've tried all the compatability mode tweaks . To no avail.

I have also tried the Deleting the appacache and restarting thing., and verifying the game cashe and reinstalling.

Help please

I did...
I also: Temp disabled my AV/FIrewall while installing and attempting to run. No dice there either.

That's unfortunate then you'll have to wait for the rendering fix discussed on the post too.

Do you have an estimate on when the rendering fix will be released? I would also like to play the games on Windows XP Sp3 (32-bit).

Nope, but it has been the only bug we have been working on for the last 72 hours.

Alrighty then... heh. Push come to shove I'll copy it over to my old Win98 box. Or perhaps do a windows 3,1 installation in dosbox. To run it.

I look forward to playing the game when the bugfix comes out. I'll keep the game on follow til then. THanks though for bringing the classic back... Now I just need to track down the guy that made Castle of the Winds

I am also having the same issue as well. I will try the fixes soon if the same problem comes up I can wait for the fixes you speak of. I will have to admit I loved playing this game as a kid and can't wait till I can get it working. Thanks for bringing this classic game back to life. :)

Yep this is exactly my problem, hoping it can get fixed soon!

Yes it's our top bug and what we've been working on for the last 96 hours. To see the latest news including downloading the v1.0.3 fix please visit the top Dev thread:

I noticed the minimum requirements for this were changed and now say "Windows Vista" When before it included older OSes, pretty sneaky.

Hmm.. well isn't that a kick in the teeth.
I also noticed that and asked about it in the Dev Diary thread.

A question for the developer: Do you believe that Chip's Challenge 1 and 2 will (eventually) work on Windows XP Sp3 (32-bit)?

I have alternatives, such as installing it on a laptop with a more modern OS, but I'd like to know if this is something you think is important enough to fix.
It something we'd like to get running but Windows is being fun and currently only letting us support some Windows Versions when we do an export. So we are currently have to choose between modern or old versions of Windows. Time will tell if we can find a solution. Currently we have been working 96 hours on the Small black window / not loading Bug.

At least they are aware of the problem and hope to fix it at some point.

Fair enough I guess? I mean, I have no reasonable expectation for any game to support the now antiquated and unsupported XP, but when the system requirements say that it is supported and it isn't that is kind of a let down.
