Vector 36

What's the best settings (best performance) in SteamVR (HTC Vive) ?
Title..

So, coming back to this game after a little while (about a year or more?). then I find it's a stutter feast. It's worse now than I remember, even after getting a new rig. Went from an AMD FX-8350, GTX 970 and a DK2, to an AMD Ryzen 7 1700, GTX 1080 Ti FTW3 and HTC Vive..

Using Windows 7 Ultimate, 64-bit.

Alright, maybe it's "just" a little stutter every second or so (not sure but around there), but after a while it's getting to me. And the flying in this game is so amazing! (withoutt stutter).

It's not the GPU monitoring thing (MSI Afterburner), it's set to update every 3 seconds. But just in case I also closed it. No improvement.

There's quite a lot of combinations of settings to try out.. Just reprojection alone have 3 on/off's (8 combinations), I think, unless one of them is a master on/off..
- Asynchronous reprojection
- Interleaved reprojection
- Force always on (or something like that, can't quite remember).
I tried a few of them, but it seems to just get worse the more I try. It seems to work best with only asyncchronous on, but I'm not sure.

The in-game quality settings doesn't seem to affect it much either.

Steam's super sampling things are all set to 1x (though the SS filter thing is on..might try with that off since I guess it's moot without any SS? Or?)

- Btw, is it not possible to turn off that mirror image (on the PC moniotor)?

- Also, is there a way to get back to that first-time tutorial flight test? I can't find it in any menu? I did a complete game reset, but that turned off my HMD, SteamVR went black, desktop too I think, had to start tast manager to get back in business.

If you are talking about a small stutter that happens once in a while but is consistent thoughout flying, it is probably the engine garbage collection and has nothing to do with your rig. I have spent lots of time trying to make the memory management as slick as possible (and it should absolutely be better than a year ago! ) but it still needs to process events once in a while. Vector's next big update should hopefully address this as it will probably get a near complete code rewrite, which should speed things up. Sorry I couldn't do more with it.

First, sorry if I came off as a bit annoyed or frustrated. And thanks for replying.

The stutter I experienced was maybe once a second, but I'm guessing that's not what you are refering to? In fact maybe it wasn't the game after all, at least not to that extent. I moved the install folder from HDD to SSD (my OS drive), and it was markantly improved, almost no stutter. It wasn't completely gone, but it was mostly at the beginning of a race (haven't tried the game since I wrote the above post, so it isn't fresh in my memory - I have to get back to this).

And about the skimmer tutorial that you get in the very beginning, any way of returning to that without resetting the hole game (which also closed SteamVR) ? Not that this is a big issue though.

Ya It could happen once every second. Its just intermittant instead of constant frame drop. Because of the nature of it, I dont think you can ever fully cure it, but glad the SSD trick worked.

You can go into "Race" then on the top left there will be the tutorials button (will have question marks). You will have access to each of the 3 tutorials there.
