it depends on the person really. I prefer realistic animal simulations. This isn't it, Play the free version first to see if you like it. The game is only fun for about 10 mins. Then frustration sets in as some tend to hack the game. Keep in mind, Don't think everyone will be friendly and give a new player a warm welcome. They won't. not even your own species. If your not careful and allow them too close to give them the benefit of the doubt they'll kill you. I've had female bunnies kill my character because i wasn't interested in reproducing with them as well as female killing female's and males killing males to get the opposite gender. Infact, most login's you were lucky to last 5 minutes. Because if you weren't killed by a predator, which is natural, you'll be killed by a herbivore. Because they felt like it. It kicks you out that server back to the menu. If you want to meet your friend in that same server, it's often full when you get back. And when you manage to get in, your dead within a few mins. And the cycle repeats.

Yes there's a single player. However even there the AI's stupid. Practically everything attacks you. Mainly the predators and the same gender of your animal attacks you. They don't stop either, they'll hunt you down until your dead. So if your a male rabbit the male rabbits will constantly chase and attack you. The last time i played singleplayer i had practically half the npc's after me. Wasn't fun at all. You couldn't sit down for 2 seconds to look at the scenery as they were always right behind you.
But in the steam version they just walk past you like: A meerkat should I hunt it?
Then another one is like: Nah lets just walk around for a while
the game seems dead...

If you guys want animal simulation games, Look up on steam, Untamed Life of a Cougar. You play as a mother cougar. They've tried to make it as realistic as possible. You breed, have cubs and try to raise them to adulthood by keeping them safe from Male cougars, who want to kill your cubs so they can sire their own. Female cougar's that attack you if you don't keep your territory marked, But if your cubs get in the way she'll kill those as well. Their's human hunters that want to hunt and kill you for sport, they even have companion hound dogs with them. Loads of prey and predators. Cubs have 3 life stages. Barely walking stage, i would say around a few weeks old. They're tiny, slow and adorable. Then you have Kitten stage, 8 weeks old or more. They can keep up with mum now. Then adolescent. Small and cuter versions of adult cougars. They even start trying to hunt on their own at this stage. Keep in mind raising offspring in the wild is not meant to be easy, that's why people rarely raise all 3 cubs in this game without reloading a save.

There's also Dinosaur Battlegrounds. Play the role as a dinosaur in a open world. Though it's been said that most of the dinosaurs might be playable. Dinosaur's look good, Animations need alittle improvement, but aren't bad. (Not out yet)

And Saurian. Also a dinosaur simulation game, though at the moment i think there's only going to be 4 playable dinosaurs. Model's look fantastic and so do the animations. To top it off they want to make it as realistic as science allows them too. (Not out yet)

So...this game isn't as good as Wolf? That game, and Lion (the sequel) was the first (and best) animal simulations. No other sim that came after came close to either of those two games. I wish GOG would release them but it's so unknown and the company went bankrupt so it seems like it will be hard to get the license for them.

You can still play WOLF and LION. They're on abandonware. You'll need Dosbox to play them though. WOLF.exe can be dragged over on top of the dosbox for it to load and LION has to be coded into the dosbox to boot it. I actually have the original CD of LION with the sound.

I never could get the sound to work right for Wolf in DosBox though. It's really static-y, which is a shame 'cause the music is awesome. I prefer Wolf to Lion because wolves are one of my fave animals, and the animations and SFX in that game is really authentic despite being made up of sprites. It'd be even more awesome if it had more predators though, like Lion. It just seemed really odd that there's no bears, foxes, etc.

I have both games on disc still. It'd still be nice if there were digital versions available. I'm shocked I actually found someone who has played the game(s) though. They're really obscure. I still remember buying it at CompuCentre with Sam and Max Hit the Road.

Fun fact: one of the wolf profile pictures is Jed, a wolfdog actor who starred in The Journey of Natty Gann, 1982 The Thing, and White Fang/2 (the Disney movie). The picture of him is taken from White Fang.

I didn't notice the other movies but i noticed from white fang 2. Loved that movie.
you just made me remember that a studio were remaking WOLF. They apparently got in touch with sanctuary woods, and got there permission to remake it. They were making it into a multiplayer game, in the style of WOLF, with more predators etc. You were supposed to be able to carry pups which would be real players and have other real players as rival packs. Though they came across quite a few problems and scrapped the sprite version. They were naming it WOLF Online.. Think the team was called Raven Woods. They're still apparently remaking it but more into a 3D version. Which i managed to get a hold of. Don't know how far into development they are now though.

This is WOLF redone by Raven Woods. Sprite version.

The 3D version - Darwin's World. Though don't know if it'll ever be completed.
