This is a really old post from Von the community manager, but I assume it still holds true.
"The FPS is deliberately capped at 60 because of a serious techincal issue. It is unlikely that we will be able to uncap this." The post is located in there old forum here http://besiege.freeforums.net/thread/289/more-graphic-options
I'm guessing the game physics are programed to run at 60fps, and going over that will cause the physics to break.
I believe this is the reason, but the issue may have been resolved during development. I'll bring the issue up with the devs when I next speak to them.
If it's technically possible an "unlimited" option would be very helpful so you can render above your Hz rate for improved input responsiveness. (There's actually a pretty big difference you can feel, even running 130fps on a 96hz monitor).
Then there's also the problem that 60fps doesn't sync up will with 96Hz and stutters. I'd like to turn vsync off, but it won't even when I force it in drivers. Vsync and triple buffering options would be very welcome as lots of people run 2560x1440 Korean monitors at 96Hz.
I'll make sure I ask next week!
why the bump
and the double post
The cap was added very early on in development to ensure that the physics remained stable, but it may no longer be necessary as we have mage significant changes to the game and even moved it to a new engine.
To be honest, if the cap is to be removed, it is unlikely that it will happen any time soon. It would require extensive testing and at the moment we have more important stuff in the works that we'd rather spend the time on.
