Resistance on wheels/cogs
Hey all, new to the game and loving it! I recently have tried several configurations of large powered wheels, powered cogs etc. to create more stable cranes, rotating gun turrets and the like. One issue I keep running into is that once there is a bit of weight on the wheel or cog they begin to slowly rotate on their own if the weight is even slightly imbalanced. I've tried using springs, but they only slow down the problem. They seem to have no resistance even when auto-brake is applied.

Am I missing something in the way cogs work possibly? Any tips or pointers? I really like all the connection points on the large powered wheels and want to use them more for things other than ground wheels.

Alternativly, is there a mod somewhere that simpy adds a resistance setting or makes auto-braking more effective?

Wheels and cogs makes it so that you can force to spin the wheel, even if the wheel or the cog is not spinning on it's own.

This could cause problem, like what you've experienced.

To solve the issue, you need a block that cannot be forced to be spinned or rotated.

Such blocks are Steering Hinges and Steering Blocks. They are coded and designed to be used as steering purposes, thus will not be forced to be spun no matter what.

I've used the Steering pieces to make cranes and X/Y rotating turrets but they are flimsy, single blocks. They tend to bounce around and become unstable with much weight on them. Im trying to make very large cranes and turrets with multiple anchor points.

I thought I'd use the large wheels because they are much sturdier and have many built in connection points. They'd be perfect if the auto-brake just added more significant resistance, or if I could find a mod that adds this feature.

Ill just have to experiment some more!
