About to quit this game hard style
So I finally struggled my way to the end and Risky Boots was taken by the Pirate master. Then I was told I have to find all the rest of the dark magic.

So, to get to the end of the game I have to go on a collect-a-thon and reply every single level while doing stupid things such as poking all the walls to see if there are hidden paths just to finish the game. That is some disguesting design, you are making main objective things extremely hell hidden enemies?

Artificial game lengtheners please go home.

Actually it's optional. You can beat the game without it (and even unlock pirate mode that way), though you get a different ending.

Thank goodness.

Really you find this stupid?

I mean not to judge but when i was at that point i had all but 2 Dark Magics left and even then those where not to difficult to get (well sorta one was a tad difficult).

Also remember that you got more power-ups and abilitys over the game so really going back to an previous area just to find 1 or 2 Cacklebats is not such a big deal. Like you can make breeze through most Islands just with the hat and the cannon alone.

And i can already tell you that you at least don't have to go back through the dungeons cause there are no Cacklebats in those so you really only have to explore everything that is not a Dungeon.

That is still quite a lot considering some are hidden in the worst places I've seen, like in a piece of ground that isn't marked out different at all from the rest of the tiles near it.

Ehh really the only 2 i can remember that are really stupidly hidden are in the Sewers and on the last Island cause you need to ram a specific wall for them to appear (the sewer one is a bit more obvious but the one on the Frost Island is not)

Also the thing with walls. Well considering that the Shantae series has a lot of mechanics commonly used in Metroidvania games I always made sure to check every wall and tried to remember every wierd piece of ground just so i can return later with more power and see if i can explore it with those.

And again i find the Dark Magic not to much out of the way compared to some of the Heart Squids.

But as said you don't need it to finish the game so beat it normaly now and replay in Pirate Mode to get them all as soon as possible.

I would say the worst one is that one on Tan Line....

Meh, its part of the Metroidvania style. Love it, hate it, but that's just been a staple for a LONG time.

I had no problem getting 100% without any guides on my first run, the level designs are pretty obvious if you study the map for a bit, it helps if you enjoy exploring though, if you don't then metroidvania games probably isn't for you.

I'm lazy and impatient. So when I reached that point in the game I looked up a walkthrough.

I did not miss out. I only had a few items left and I really could not be bothered to spend two hours going through the same dungeons finding those last items.

That is what I would reccomend for you.

you don't need a 100% complete to see the 'true' ending. To get the proper ending to the story, all you need are the 20 cacklebats.

And with each island telling you when you have them all, it's not that hard to track down the straglers.

All the other collectables, such as the heart squids only count towards the bonus after credits image.
