most people are on the discord, it has had a really high interest over there for years already
Might be because there is no pvp and the store page doesnt show any combat at all.
If this is going to be one of those cozy games,it could have gotten that point across a bit better, because when i read,,survival'',i think of something else.
I'm actually amazed they got as many wishlists as they did. They are #448 on the wishlist leaderboard last I checked, which is quite rapid for a game this young and indie.

The fact that the discussion forum is pretty dead is odd for that much steam profile engagement. Did Thor ask everyone to wishlist or something?

It could also be that the people who were able to watch the game have lost interest because of the performance.

Steam forums are a fading means of communication for games. Most new games have discord as their primary social media tool, with Steam fulfilling the function as a sales platform.

agree. Also with such a high price tag and good chance of a launch eclipsed by dune awakening... makes me sad because i like the stuff around the game but looks doa

The whole trying to claim participating in kingdoms, defending and attacking requiring premium currency is cosmetic only puts a lot of people off. Also saying they're not sure if it will be subscription based in the future makes things feel premature and disorganized.

I was ALL IN till they introduced the premium currency needed to participate in half the game.

The entire Empire system is optional and not really a huge part of the game, at least during the closed alpha. Any “territory” is just coloring the map’s chunks your Empire’s color. Doesn’t impact anything other than name recognition.

They have had nameplates that go under Empire’s members’ character names (“Noble of EmpireName”). It looks like they’re adding cosmetic capes and flags associated with it. Not everyone in an Empire has to spend the premium currency to participate in it and it does require in-game resources, too.

They’re open to changing it if it isn’t working and they’ve so far been fairly good at listening to feedback.
Optional or not,its pay to win and people generally dont like that.
If the devs dont add some,,real''pvp, the empire system is all we have, and having the bigger wallets win, just doesnt feel right.
Sounds like a way to make more profit, rather than a fun feature.

to be fair, its pay for cosmetics .. where the biggest wallet gets the biggest cosmetic :P

Its a form of pvp, without alternatives,THE form of pvp.
It doesnt become less p2w just because the reward is only cosmetic.
Many mmo,s have pvp systems that only reward cosmetic things, its not that different.

the obsession with pvp is weird to me... so many games coming out are pvp focused, albion, new world, just go play that.
this game is not meant to be your battlegrounds, It's a social civilisation builder.
the bottom line is that, yeah, we dislikes the monetised empire system but not because of how it works rn but becuase there was potential for a much cooler system that wasn't monetised, but this is the way they chose to monetise their game and all we can really do is appreciate that empires is so incredibly ignorable. no professions or skills are locked behind the paywall, no real content is locked behind the paywall. literally all the empire system is doing (once you drop your preconceived notions of what an empire should be) is painting the map with your name as a giant advertising billboard which just annoys people. I don't really count that as content, and if I want the cosmetics all I have to do is sign up as a citizen of whoever has the cosmetics I like the most- absolutely no cost to me

I recommend reading the Devs blog on their philosophy on monetization. They also have a recent stream about it, if that interests you.

With all pay to win models, I find it is important to denote what is being won. In BitCraft's case (at this time), paying to win the Empire layer has no mechanical benefit to all other players and settlements that are not involved in the empire layer. I think it is an interesting way to try harnessing the Whales/Streamer follower crowd capital as a way to keep a game Free to Play. Might allow some better cosmetics being made for F2P rather than the usual premium cosmetics being the only worthwhile ones to have.

Since joining an empire is free and the empire layer can use F2P player labor for the logistics side, it does offer the potential for a fun feature and a way to make profit. Will be interesting if the devs can manage to do both.

Depending how one defines alternate pvp, I'd argue the economical front should not be ignored.

No obsession, and your,,go play that''isnt really making sense.
OP asked why there is such a low interest, and i shared my take on this.
If the devs wanted to make a 100% pve game like palia, sure go ahead.
I wont be playing it,but good luck with it regardless.

However,thats not what they did.
They DID add a form of pvp,and for many people, its a bad form of pvp.
Dont add things to your game that you dont want players to judge.
The core of pvp isnt to grab rewards, its to,,win''versus other players, rewards are just the icing on the cake.

You got to see it from the perspective of a pvp guy.
Sure, someone who doesnt like pvp would just focus on the reward and see the pvp as a tool to get what he wants, something he has to push through.
But for someone who loves pvp,its all about the pvp itself, being able to overcome your foes, conquering stuff.....the reward comes last, its all about the prestige.
Many games feature a leaderboard, but without any rewards for being in the top 10.
Its just done for peoples ego and seeing how they compare versus the rest.
