Dreamfall Chapters is pretty fun. The Monkey Islands games or Unwritten Tales could work too

Kings Quest also had 8 entries (7 official, one added one later on) before this game. The grapics Pre-7 take a noticable downturn as this is a VERY oldschool series but they're quite enjoyable.

This game is seeking to fill the gaps left by those games and expand the story.

I think it's more hardcore classic.

But his sun need to choose for himself, what he likes more.

As for newer Adventure games there is a book of Unwritten Tales 1 and two. The first one is 80% off at the moment. Also, I would suggest the Depnoia series, but they are about the same as a PG 13 rating. Not sure how old your son is or if you care

King's quest 1-6 might be a turn off for kids of this day and age, but, 7's style should still (pretty much) hold up. If he's really hot on this type of game Tell Tale has done a number of adventure game reboots. Also,I haven't played it yet, but I've heard good things about Broken Age and don't think there's anything in there objectionable for children.

EDIT: And how could I forget! Depending on how old your son is Humongous entertainment did a bunch of animated-movie style adventure games: Pajama Sam, Freddi Fish, PutPut. Graphics wise they should all hold up pretty well, and for grade school aged kids should be right on the mark. They're super cute! (PutPut is the 'youngest' of these and Pajama Sam is the 'oldest'.)

Double edit: I just checked -- and a bunch of the old Humongous games are on steam. They're pretty cheap too!

Also they apparently have a franchise called Spy Fox that I never encountered as a kid. It looks like it's for a little older than the Pajama Sam group. The kind of 8-11 age.

I would try the KING Art Book of Unwritten Tales, The Whispered World by Daedalic Entertainment is quite good, as is Deponia.
I know many of people compair Kings Quest to Teltale games. But I find it allot closer to KING Art style.

Botanicula, Machinarium,The Longest Journey, Monkey Island, Grim Fandango, The Neverhood. Depending on the age the Daedalic games like mentioned above or wadjet eyes games like Primordia. Most of the games I mentioned are point an click, there are not a lot of puzzle adventure games that have the same game mechanics to kings quest, like wasd and quick time events, etc.

KQ has an odd way of taking elements from Point & Clicks (a genre it game into late in the series) and Controller-Based Adventure games and mixing them together to be it's own unique thing.

The difficult part in suggesting games you can play with your son is a maturity issue. How old is he and what do you feel is okay to have in games he sees? Because there are some excellent things I can suggest but they're nowhere near as family friendly as Kings Quest.

Tonally speaking, I would suggest Tales of Monkey Island.

He'll probably get a big kick out of the Deponia trilogy, has a lot of humor (especially slapstick) in it.
