I was watching part of a let's play for the game, and the person commented that, supposedly, a lot of content was cut from the game. Something about the technology being more limited than they thought, coupled with time restraints? Anyway, it's just a rumor, but supposedly they wanted to flesh out the characters more (seriously, most, if not all, of them are very boring and one-dimensional), make new or expanded areas, that sort of thing (sure would explain the huge attack boost between the last two melee weapons). So, a remake would be interesting just for that alone. But I just can't see it happening.
I'm curious what you think this "new standard" was? Everything Mask of Eternity did was already being done better by other companies.
I'd think everyone would agree that games like Doom, Diablo, Deus Ex, The Longest Journey, etc. are all just as memorable (if not more so) than Mask of Eternity. Some before Mask of Eternity, some after. All of them with mechanics included in Mask of Eternity, all of them did those mechanics better, and none of them ever said they were just building on the "new standard" set by Mask of Eternity.
Oddly enough, Quest for Glory was done better than MOE even though they came out in the same year. Sure, QFG was more 2.5D with fixed camera angle, weren't there a few places the camera can be moved?
