Squirrels can't play the lute!
And neither can I. I'm at the third stage of the puzzle (where it goes from having to brute-force six notes to, like, twenty-seven). I'm not a musician, and the sequence is way too long. Help!

What I did was to click on them several times and write the sequence as numbers. I think it was something like 3, 4, 5, 5, 4, 3, 1, 3, 2. That was taken from memory, so it might be wrong, but 1 would be the top of the string/the squirrel second from the left (the first squirrel that isn't sleeping from the left) and 5 would be the last string of the lute/ squirrel first from the right. As for 2, that is the second lute string from the top/ the squirrel first from the left (sleeping squirrel).

I'm pretty sure you got the sequence right. That's pretty impressive from memory, and probably only 1 or 2 playthroughs unless you're far more obsessive about this game than I.

Just a tip for those who need to do a similar puzzle in future, the trick is that each squirrel emits the same note when they are giving the initial tune, so if you can match the squirrel to the lute, you just need to trace the pattern that way. If you needed the tune repeated, click on any of the squirrels and the whole sequence should be repeated. And just for fun, you can talk to Neese for a bonus line of dialogue.

Sorry, but this makes no sense to me - you can only click one note at a time, what's all this "First - Fifth" stuff ?!?

Also not obvious at all to me which squirrel is making a sound when you watch them EDIT : Ok the sound had gone out of sync maybe because I'd had the game on pause a while. it's easier to follow their movements now...

...but I'm still having real problems with this. I've gone over the notes I hear again and again and the sequence when I repeat it that sounds identical isn't working. Definitely not the exact numbers stated from someone's recall above. Is there a time limit because Nyce's comment makes me feel like I can't just keep trying forever... ?

There's no time limit, and the guy above you posted a pretty straightforward solution. You've got five strings, and he shows you which to do first, then second, then third, and so on.
E_Dreamer May 22, 2016 @ 7:37am
As I said I don't understand the solution above - the one I quoted. It really makes no sense to me; I specifically explained why this was so in my first post and I was hoping someone who understood it might help
Again, that solution appears to suggest entering two notes at once which is not possible.
Additionally the sequence of numbers the other guy posted is wrong so I can't just use that.

Sync or no sync watching the squirrels isn't helping me as they're still all bobbing up and down and when they do move differently it's sort of after the note plays so hard to follow what they are doing.
At this stage I'd be quite happy for the note sequence, I've spent hours getting nowhere. I don't want to load up a full walkthrough though because spoilers.

3, 4, 5, 5, 4, 3, 1, 4, 3, 4, 2. I'm 100% positive that is the correct solution to the fourth song.

Edited to note it's the solution to the last song, I always forget there's four here since the first two are so short.

Thanks Wilco I'll give it a go

The first three songs combined become the fourth song in its entirity, with the exception of pawning off the last note to the lazy one...
E_Dreamer May 22, 2016 @ 11:53am
That's where I was failing - realising I had to add a missing note for the lazy one. I actually thought the behaviour of that squirrel (the dramatic action and noise it made after the others sounded the notes) was there to tell me the glass over the acorn would shatter once I repeated the melody correctly.
When I did so and it didn't work I kept thinking it must somehow be my ability to hear and play the notes that was at fault

Thanks all for your help

Just completed this now.
The order is: 3-4-5-5-4-3-1-4-3-4-2

Perhaps use more than one word to ask whatever it is you're trying to ask.
