Stuck in chapter 1...can't get the lantern due to a series of wrong choices?

I'm stuck, as in, I have no items I can use to advance further. I looked up a walkthough here to find that I've basically done everything wrong so far, so I am not surprised if I need to restart the game, just looking for some confirmation of that or a possible solution.

I used the fruit picker to pick the fruit from the tree over the table and knocked the beehive down and then turned in the fruit to the baker which removed the fruit picker. I believe, from reading the walkthough some, that the picker was supposed to be used to get the steak over the trap which enabled you to retrieve the badger, which enabled you to retrieve the pumpkin for the lantern. I no longer have access to the fruit picker, so, is there any other way to get the hanging steak or any way other than using the badger to get the pumpkin? If the answer is no, I screwed this up, but I find it very hard to believe they would allow the removal of the fruit picker from your inventory if there was no other way to get these items. I realize there is no advancing at all without possessing the pumpkin lantern.

So, any other way to do it or should I restart?

(I have already obtained the eye and am currently at the stage where you are to participate in the strength/speed tournament)

You never need to restart the game, there are no dead ends, and there are multiple ways to get through the chapter.

You don't need the fruit picker to get the steak. In fact, it's quite simple to get the steak: just untie the rope.

I don't know where you are in the story currently, but you might not even need the pumpkin yet. If you're going for the eye, any of the shopkeepers will help you get one. Since you already have the starshrooms, why not look for some sugarroot (I think that's what it's called). There should be some close to the meat, too...

Thanks for the comments, I actually restarted the game not having gotten any replies yet at the time and I stumbled upon the rope to untie the steak on my second play through! So I just picked my first one back up with my new knowledge since I was further along in that one.

if you need the pumpkin for the light you need to find the item that you use the meat to get it. then you can get the pumpkin.
