Trial of Speed
So I am down the well, and completed the trial of wits and got the crystal. I took it back to Mordon, but he said I needed to do another trial. I don't see anywhere to activate the trial, though. I went back down the crystal cave, walked along the walls, and nothing, and there doesn't seem to be any other passages to go through. What am I missing?

You should already have what you need.

Yeah, I figured that out shortly after I posted. I felt a bit silly, but it still could have been clearer.

No, don't feel silly. That was bad game design. They should have taken the lock from you during the first conversation, rather than have you hand over something that you certainly already have.

It's not a matter of being obvious enough, when you inspect the lock for the first time, Graham says it's a test to see if his mind is still quick enough and from that you can assume it's the trial of speed.

True. I had the same issue of finding out what the trial of speed was until I looked at my inventory and there were wording under the lock name in paranthesis like "Proof of speed". I then recall when he picks up the lock, Graham says that he did so for proof of his think thinking.

I think having a voice over line of Graham stating something like "Did I picked up something earlier that would show proof of my quick thinking skills?" as after Mordack asking for a proof of speed would make the puzzle earlier, but would be a better game design, imo.

I didn't think it was obvious either, and it sure puzzled me... but in the end the lack of other things to do easily let me try it out. And then it was actualy one of these "Aha"-moments, where I thought that I could've thought about that too.
I didn't even realize the inventory description or the "fast wit" achievement.
I just figured (after I handed it over): "Alright, that's nifty. You pass the test of speed, because you finished it before you even took it. Very fast indeed."

Adding another hint, just clubbing the right answer into you, would've spoiled it from my point of view, and surely wouldn't have made it "better game design", whatever that might be.
But hey, I also enjoyed the last two riddles of the Sphinx...
