Anime character creator software??
I like how Manga Maker comipo allows you to create a 3d model and rotate them to get just the right angle for the shot you need, does anyone know of any software out there that works in a similar fashion? As long as there are plenty of templates to begin with, with lots of customization sliders, it should be pretty easy to make original looking characters, so everyone's game doesn't look so similar on Steam. I'd prefer to create characters from a blank canvas instead of grabbing pre-made characters on a resource site. I don't mind paying for the software, but free would be better of course ;)

GAME ON!

I forgot to add, it'd have to be royalty-free and in english. Thanks again!

Oh, it's a difficult question. There is some non anime generators:

You can find some 3D anime-like characters in Manga Studio:

But there is like 5-6 models at all.

Daz Studio is free and it's what I personally use to reference when it gets tricky.

It is free, but how they get you is they have you spend money to access some sliders that do neat things (particularly with like boobs or whatever), but you can probably get by without them depending on what you're trying to do.

EDIT:

That said, if you want the anime look, you will have to extensively modify the original model... but Daz Studio 3D models help give you a good starting point since you have so much control over everything (camera, pose, proportions, etc.).

Thanks for the response folks! I'll do some more homework on the subject

The link that brandeX shared is what we used in some of our examples, also we are working on live2D support which should help on the 3d side of things.

3D Girl, with various patches and mods. Unfortunately, it's a hentai program, but you can use it to make really good anime characters. Tons of clothing options, custom poses, and various pretty backdrops too. I'm not sure if they allow stuff you create to be used in your own projects -- probably not, but I doubt they'd notice as they are a Japanese company.

Is there a non-chibi version? Or a male version? I've seen videos of both, and also a video where they zoomed into her face. WTF?

That's not "chibi", unless you are looking at the unrelated icons on the bottom of the page.

What ever the correct term, I was hoping for one where she doesn't look like a kid. I saw one on Youtube, which seemed to use similar software.

@Upper Dave
Khmix is a content-based software.
There are lots of artists producing templates for Khmix, Templates means the body, clothing, facial features, hairstyle... that can be combined together into a character.
Check this out:

does this character looks like a kid to you?

I'm using a template by kaoru
you can get them here: http://gensoukyou.1000.tv/
It's actually listed under khmix's page as well as a link.

EDIT: kaoru mostly does alphes style of Touhou characters and is specialized.
To save you the trouble, you can get a wider array of templates for khmix here:

nemoma, thanks a ton! I started to realise that's what the software was after I made my last post, but had loads of trouble finding templates. Thanks! :D

Yes! There is an English version. I don't have a link, you can find links on Youtube as I recall.
No! These are 2d pictures, not 3d models.

This program seems uberly cool for all of us who can't draw, even if only to make initial templates to start working and looking for an artist to redraw to stuff in the later stages of development.

It will be nice to get it added to the resources post, and also to find some sites with free to use resources for KHMix.

Also, any opinions on alternatives like IIcharacter or CharacterManaJ or MoltenMercury? Any idea if resources are compatible between them?
