Character Animation Using .gif
Hello!

I am an animator, and I am making a few gifs of my character. the way I want him to animate is as follows:

1st gif: character shifts from one pose to another
2nd gif: character holds the second pose with subtle blinking.

each gif would be a seperate expression.

my question is this: is there a way to prevent a gif from looping in Tyranobuilder, or pause it? Also, is there a way to time exactly how long the first expression will last before switching to the next?

Tyranobuilder doesnt have control over gif files, but if your an animator it might be worth your time to look into live2d which does have that type of control within tyranobuilder.

You can find out a little about live2d here http://tyranobuilder.com/use-live2d-in-your-games/ to see if it would serve your purpose.

Another thing you could do is loop through the images with a macro or javascript, we had a couple of users make a break down as to how that can be done:

Most image manipulation software (photoshop, gimp, etc) will have an option at export as to whether the GIF will loop forever or once. This property is respected when the files are imported into Tyranobuilder. So, you'll just need to set the GIFs to play once from the software you're making them with.

oh, yey it worked...at first. The .gif I load works perfectly the first time it joins the scene (as a character), as well as if the expression is changed to another .gif, but not if I switch the expression back to either. The gifs are made to only play once and stop on the last frame, so I'm guessing that Tyranobuilder never truely reloades the gif when changing the expression back to it, and that's why it doesnt replay?

Um...am I making any sense?

what I mean to say is this is how it currently works:

join scene: first gif (it plays and stops at the last frame)

change expression: second gif (it also plays and stops at last frame)

press branch button

change expression: back to first gif (does not play and is automatically loaded at its final frame)

what I want is the first gif to replay when I change the expression of the character back to it no matter how many times I do that within the same scene. Is that possible?

update: oh nevermind! it seems to work fine when its exported into windows format. it was just not working properly within the preview in tyranobuilder for some reason.

Thanks for the update does this mean we can remove this from the suggestion list?

well it works, but i think that it would be nice to be able to see it within the prewiew window so that we dont need to export to make sure its working every time. so i guess the update would only need to adress the preview, not the export.

Thanks :)

I will update the suggestion list to reflect that!

oh strange. I didn't think TB didn't support animated gifs... when I tried to upload mine into my VisNov it told me it only supported two formats. I suppose you're talking about the character window and not the background scene?

Animated gif backgrounds work perfectly as well

uh oh. looks like I was wrong again. It seems that it looks fine with the windows export, but the browser one we uploaded has the same problem as the preview window when it comes to the same gifs not resetting. I have no idea about the other types that we could export to, so it might be best to check those too if you can...
