Characters fade out on expression change. How to stop it?
Hello!

So, I just brought TB today. Awesome program. Anyway, I've been fiddling with it for a few hours now, and sorta ran into an annoying wall (well, more than one, but the rest are due to my incapability to draw), and I was hoping someone would be able to clarify me something here.

I've been making a VN prototype on RPG Maker before, and with that one, I could just erase the former expression and show the new one, and they'd flow through seamlessly. Is it possible to do that in TB? Cause I kinda don't really like seeing my characters fade out to change expressions. Since I'm using characters with a single pose, made with KHMix and the Kaoru Male/Female set, it kinda makes more sense to me just to have them switch expressions instantly, without the fade out? Is that possible?

Thank you!

This is totally doable, In both the change expression component and join scene component: Once the character has joined the scene and you are ready to change the expression just use the change expression component and set the duration to 1 if its a new character you can just do the same thing with the exit scene and join scene component , this will allow it to show instantly

(Please note that you do not want it to be set to 0 otherwise it can cause problems with your VN)

As a suggestion though, it can be very jarring to the reader and become a distraction when you are switching them in such a quick manner its generally best to play around with duration so that you have some delay present to were the reader has time to understand that an action has taken place.

Hm... wondering why I didn't figure that out myself, considering I used it for a blinking effect with the backgrounds... Thank you very much for answering me though! I'll look into the duration as well. I didn't realize why my friend couldn't notice the expression changes, so, I'll take your word for it and try to make it more visible.

Thank you once more!

Hello! ^^)/

Sorry for reviving this old post, but I have a little little question about this thread.

When I use "change expression", and I put, for example, 500 miliseconds, there is a fadeout of half second from expression 1 to expression 2, but the issue is that, for a brief moment, I can see the background of the character behind.

So, what actually happens is this:

[Expression 1] --> [Background] --> [Expression 2]

Is there a way to go this?

[Expression 1] --> [Expression 2]

Without showing the background, but with a little fadeout?

Thank you!
I've been having the exact same problem as Kurisu No Patto. Maybe another comment will bring this back up?

I "solved" this putting the same character in the same position behind the character that is in the screen, so when the character that is in the screen changes the expression, instead of showing the background, it will show the character that is behind (which is the same, so it creates a smooth transition).
Okay. Thank you.
Is the background character just an image, instead of a duplicate character?

The background image is a sprite too, but it only has the basic (iddle) expression.

Let's say you have a character called "Marta". So I make a sprite called "Marta1" and "Marta2" which will be placed in the same time, in the same position and with the same height/width than Marta1.

The only difference is that you will put "Marta2" just in the place above "Marta1".

Then you will be free to change all the expressions of "Marta1", because since "Marta2" will show first than "Marta1", then it will be hidden, and when you change a expression of "Marta1", then instead of showing friefly the background, it will show "Marta2" and will look smoothly.

If you want to see how it worked for me, PM me and I will give you a key of the game to see how it works :)
