Worth extincting all on first Normal play?
Im done with every story quest and on the part of the murals in dead dunes. I'm still only on day 6/13 so i was just wondering if it was worthgoing through extincting everything or if theres a certain few that are more worth it?

I use Chronostasis nearly every time its up >.<

I would. Some of the last ones drops accessories that can be upgraded 2 times. But if you complete enough side quests, you can fight all the last ones in a dungeon on the 14th day.

Care to go into a bit more detail about this? Also when i finish the main story quests am i just blowing time until the last day?

Definitely. Some of the drops (Early-blooming Corsage,Crippling Hood, Bandit Scarf, Mage Hunter's Mask, etc) are really helpful. Plus, Flesh Render (drop from Reaver Omega) is basically the best weapon you can get before the final day.

yeah i accidently stumbled upon the flesh render. its great. My question is, once the main story line is done, does it skip to the last day? or do you get to play around until the last day? Also, where do you buy the good items that are only available on the last day?

if you plan to play two rounds than yes. if you go through the trouble you have the material drops to speed through side missions and canvas prayers extremely fast on your NG+. Not to mention the extra gil and the last one side quest.

I mean I end up extincting automatically anyways seeing as enemies just keep on coming. About an hour or so in the wildlands and you'll have made at least one species go extinct.

Yes, extinct everything, for a lot of different reasons. It allows you to complete all the Canvas of Prayer quests. A good number of them drop head accessories, which you have to obtain three times to max out, so you'll need to extinct everything three times at least. Not to mention some of these accessories (even the non-head accessories) are the best in the game. Also extra Gil and defeating Last Ones give you the various kinds of Malistones, as well as higher than you can normally obtain level abilities, especially if you kill Last Ones on days 10-12, you'll get level 4 ability drops from most of them.

If you're doing the majority, or all of, the side quests, you'll be getting an extra day with a bonus dungeon which will be much easier conquered if you've already extincted everything. The issue with that dungeon is that time flows always, even in battle, and you can't use Chronostasis. You may not, and probably won't, need all the time to finish it, but it would be a bummer to run out of time and not be able to collect the reward after the fight. Because it will straight kick you out of the dungeon after the fight if you run out of time in the middle of the fight with the superboss. You'll miss out on a garb and a head accessory.

On NG+ and beyond, it remembers enemies you've extincted, and you can't complete the Last Ones quest on NG, because there's a handful of enemies that only appear on the final day, but if you've extincted everything, and you extinct everything on the final day, then on NG+, you can immediately complete the quest on this and all subsequent runs. But as mentioned before, you'll still want to extinct the ones that drop head accessories two more times even if they're not needed for the quest. But because the superboss on the extra day also drops a head accessory, you may as well go ahead and extinct everything at least two more times.

Oh, and didn't mention the shops on the final day, they're literally right in your face at the start, can't miss them. Everything (except adornments) that you can only buy there is mighty expensive, though, so chances are, you won't be able to buy all of it.

I would prioritize the garbs and adornments over the weapons and shields, though, because the garbs and adornments are literally only available here, while the weapons and shields are just early access for things that are usually only purchaseable on Hard. Especially if your first NG+ is going to be on Hard, you'll be able to buy these things there on any day from the appropriate shops that sell those types of item.

There are other things than what I list here for sale at the shops, but these are the things that aren't available otherwise on a first Easy/Normal playthrough, or in the case of the garbs and adornments, only purchaseable on the final day regardless. There is also an Adventuring Essentials shop that sells notes for almost all the monsters that only appear on the final day.

Garbs:
Champagne Gold - 100000 Gil
Nightmare - 200000 Gil
Lilitu - 200000 Gil (Hard Only)

Adornments:
Lunar Circlet - 360 Gil
Honored Circlet - 360 Gil
Brave Circlet - 360 Gil
Holy Circlet - 360 Gil

Weapons:
Masamune - 450000 Gil
Asteria's Staff - 450000 Gil

Shields:
Apis Gauntlet - 228000 Gil
Juliet's Sorrow - 228000 Gil

Whatever you do, don't bother trying to drive Meonektons into extinction the normal way. You need to kill over 65,000 of that monster type to do so.

Do a bunch of side quests and then on the last day, youll get the extra dungeon day where you can make everything go extinct. Loot away and end boss is easy gg

Here's the details. http://ca.ign.com/wikis/lightning-returns-final-fantasy-xiii/Ultimate_Dungeon_-_The_Extra_Day

Basically, if you complete enough side quests, you will be able to enter the 14th day. In Dead Dunes, there is a special dungeon that allows you to fight all the last ones.

If you finish the main story quests and don't want to do more side quests, you can keep resting at an inn to advance to the last day. But side quests give you stat boosts, so you might want to finish some of them

Do you know if there is a list of how much it takes to extinct each species and where they are located? you know like a checklist?

i think ive taken out everything except Meonektons which i read are better off killing after the normal play. Can i still finish that Last Researchers quest without finishing them? Also im pretty sure im done with everything and no leads... just sleep till end day? ~40 hours played

You can't complete that quest until NG+, because there are five more monsters that only appear on the final day. All the small/mediums on the final day require 30, and the large requires 15, on the last day. The general rule of thumb for the others is 120 for small, 60 for medium, 30 for large, but there are exceptions. Like only 30 Cactuar. And 100 monkeys whether they be Vali or Hanuman, they count equally. And 65535 Meonektons.
