So far I'm just in it for the story. As for combat: I just smash the button that kills the enemy the fastest.
The previous games clearly told you what were the circumstances of the battle--good stuff.
To me this is the worst ff game of them all because of the time limit forcing you to rush through side quests. It pretty much makes you have to look up what time + where they spawn or you will likely miss quests because they spawned at a specific other time of the day or on a later day. Even worse there is a quest in the game you have to fail on purpose to unlock a better one.
The combat I don't mind so much, I have played better but I have played worse also.
Everyone is entitled to their own opinions though and what I heavily dislike about the game someone else might really enjoy or not see it as an issue.
E.g. When you are a medic in the first game, the Auto-Battle will prioritise who needs healing by your team member's HP condition. If they are all green bar, then the party leader would be prioritised to be completely healed. Using Auto-Battle in this case is practically the worst thing you could do, as there are many abilities or enemies that can chomp your health off 3/4s of your HP, whilst you are obeying the Auto-Battle to heal someone else.
I mean, you can make up nonsensical scenarios that require foresight all you like, but fact of the matter is that the only challenge was paradigm shift. Aside from that, auto-battle would almost always fulfill what you wanted from it. The timing of the shift is all that matters. 13 and 13-2 is not a hard game. I dunno why you're pretending it is.
Lets not forget we're talking about a JRPG. It's not like you need tactics anyway. If you meet a hard boss, all you really have to do is grind a couple of levels before it's manageable. FF games are trash.
And how long were battles for you? How often did you get 5 stars and not 2-3?
Auto-Battle is not always recommend, especially when buffing your team up as the game's Auto-Battle uses this *share the love* mechanic, which concentrates on casting a buff on each character of the team, which is inefficient and time-consuming. Since you can cast up to three buffs (2 ATB bars per buff, the characters can have up to 6 ATB bars).
Your second point is invalid. But then again, if you 100% the first game, you would reconstruct your opinion, the second game, like I said, was easier, which I am not denying.
I somewhat agree with your opinion but, with the Story Bosses [till you install the Hard Mode mod for the first game], but bosses such as Long Gui, the final Cie'th mission bosses, etc. is when you start disobeying the Auto-Battle and utilise your own brain by executing/chaining up appropriate spells or attacks, else you would get punished awfully.
Eh, well. I am not here to argue your opinion, since everyone has their own opinions about games, which of course, they are entitled to.
Okay, I guess it was extreme to accuse you of pretending the game is hard, but you are definitely pretending it isn't braindead. And it is. I'm not even pretending to be MLG, it's just that any disadvantages I came across simply wasn't enough to get me.
As for my second point, are you talking about the leveling comment? How is it invalid? Lmao. It's 100% the truth. You can outlevel any challenge you come across in the story. Granted, like you said, if you're talking about superbosses and ♥♥♥♥, then fine. I'll admit I didn't bother doing those, because 13 and 13-2 sucks.
But honestly, the entire concept of level 1 to level 99 in JRPGs is outdated and crappy for this very reason. It reduces the difficulty of the game to a matter of time you're willing to spend grinding.
This argument doesn't matter anyway, because the 13 series sucks serious ass. I was going to give Lightning Returns a try, but a little reading convinced me that I'm missing nothing. Nomura is a hack and I'm glad he's being shelved to games with the budget of an indie. Let actual talents take the reigns of games with stupid high production values.
