I've not played STW but it sounds like they could be similar - you gather resources, craft gear and weapons and then have to defend the crucibles against waves of creatures in a tower defense playstyle.
As far as the tower defense portion goes - you can't set up your lanes in this game. It's very much a tower positioning / combo system. Fortnite STW was more of a "Set up your lane for optimal funnel / trap effectiveness". There's also no base building in Eden Rising.
Yeah, I understand that the preparation for the hordes are setup differently, as I've just played 2 hours so far. I'm quite disappointed tbh. I was roaming around the world only to be stopped by pay walls since I actually don't "own" the paid version of the game. Eden Rising seems nothing more than a demo. I don't know if the devs plan to keep it this way, and I understand that they have to make money to further progress, but to say that it's free to play is merely an illusion. The gameplay was quite fun, but I wish there were more enemies of less health while roaming around the world for more combat, but that's just me nitpicking. Also, whenever I tried joining another's world I crashed EVERY time. I've only tried joining about 4-5 times, but each time crashed and was directed bact to the Steam Store page, and File explorer with an error html. Kind of upsetting since this seems like the type of game that's most enjoyable with a co-op group.
Yes, I've played a couple of hours now and it seems very similar. Gather resources, craft traps, etc' then spawn in your waves of enemies and defend your objective, being the crucible. I was disappointed that a lot of the world was locked through a pay wall since I technically don't "own" the game, and I mean the paid version even though it's F2P. The other issue I ran into multiple times was crashes when trying to join other's world's when there is clearly space for more ppl. Kind of sucks, but I get it's still in what seems to be very early access, or beta-ish, if that makes sense. Hope the devs fix this. I hope it doesn't become what STW has. STW was supposed to become F2P last year, and it still hasn't. I've already invested hundreds and hundreds of hours into that game so I was looking for one that had a similar concept, and was hoping this was the one. We'll see, I still have hope for this game.
Ah, this is probably why I couldn't join other's servers I'm assuming? It kind of makes sense why I was crashing. I still believe they should call it a demo, and not a F2P game, but that's just my opinion.
Hmm strange, but that's good to know. I don't know why I was crashing then. It was only happening only when trying to join other servers. I'll make a mention of this to the mods then. I've also seen new reviews that have shown crashes, but the reviewer was getting them during the siege stage and crashing twice.
I could not even understand what the goal of the game is even about. Feels like some 3rd person Tower defense or something.. I'm not even sure. The combat felt really bad as when you attack it locks you in place and you can't move.
Feels like another game about nothing.
I wish the developers would make the game more straightforward, because I feel it's completely unclear what the game is all about. They should also make the combat more fluid by allowing players to move while attacking. Adding some storyline and quests would work too.
I think if the game slowly makes the switch from whatever it is now into an MMORPG with different zones, quest chains with actual storyline, not just "kill 10 wolves, because f*ck you", but more like "kill 10 wolves (or aliens whatever) because they're attacking the defenseless villagers here and eating their plants".. the game will really become something.
Don't take my word for it, devs, this is your game, that's just my opinion. You should do with this game whatever your gut feeling tells you to do.
