Won't Start

I have a brand new computer, using windows 10 just installed this game crashes before it reaches the main menu. I get the opening video and then the next screen, but then it goes to a black screen and crashes.

Can someone please help me?

Ok I know it is a brand new PC but you did you update your graphic drivers ?
Check ALL updates, video, sound, and even Windows 10 (check that you have already automatic updating on)

Also having similar issue tonight. Game crashes at a certain spot in the game. I've tried fully deleting the game then reinstalling it with no success. I almost returned the game but now I'll wait a few days seeing as the game itself might be having issues and could be fixed within a few days.

Thank you for posting- my boyfriend will be very happy to hear that the game might be fixed soon as others are having similar issues. I wish I'd have checked here before deleting his progress!

running in windows xp compatibility mode has helped me get beyond the main screen, but actually playing the game seems to be impossible cause it's going to crash and be unplayable at sometime. i have no idea what's going on, i can't evenget through the 8 battle tutorials, when i try to play some of them sometimes there are no trees or anything, sometimes they are, some battles immediately cause the game to crash every time, i have no idea what this ♥♥♥♥ is about but it's annoying i have a brand new lenovo with windows ten and a nvidia gtx 960

changed compatiability mode to make it run in windows 8 instead of xp, and that has fixed the things i was talking about in the previous post, i'm sure i'll be back on in a day when it crashes at a new spot.

i do remember seeing in a post somewhere that people didn't have any of these problems playing in windows 7, so i'll leave that for my last desperate attempt

1 patch in over a year and all they managed to do is make it so the game won't launch at all???!!! What kinda crap is that?

If you just want to play it and you don't care about the total Steam hours played, then open the Total War launcher (by starting another Total War game) and select Medieval. Note that time tracked will be for the Total War game with which you opened the launcher.

This game has always been very fickle for me. Sometimes it plays without a hitch, hours on end. Then I leave it alone for a few months, and when I get back to it it's crash bonanza. Later, it may work fine again. I have a feeling it may have something to do with certain Windows updates that the game doesn't like, which are then overwritten by later windows updates. It certainly hasn't co-incided with game updates, not for me anyways.

Sometimes, when it's crash season, the game crashes before it even gets to the menu. Usually, though, it crashes after 30-90 seconds on the campaign map, or on the computer resolving moves after I hit end turn or some such. I have often found that it helps to be stubborn and just try, try, try until the game finally gives up and lets me play. But just as often, the game wins and I give up first.

I'm running it in Win 8.1, by the way.
