FIX for: MTW crashing during campaign map (EXCEPTION ACCESS VIOLATION)

Here to share a new solution for a game-breaking crash, where MTW freezes + crashes to desktop a couple of minutes AFTER loading into the campaign map. In the crash log ("steamapps/common/Total War Medieval 1 Gold/crash"), the error type should be EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION.

This is NOT a fix for:

- MTW crashing while it is STILL LOADING the campaign map. For this, you need this:

- MTW crashing while you are INVADING ANOTHER TERRITORY with a large army. For this, you require switching the campaign + battle resolutions to 1076x768 or higher.

OK, back to the fix at hand. MTW's Exception Access Violation in this case was likely the result of a recent Windows update not taking into account old software and so might be patched soon (before said update, MTW worked fine enough). But in the meantime, use SOLUTION 1 here[windowsreport.com]:

- 1. Open Control Panel.
- 2. Go to System and choose Security > System.
- 3. Next, click on Advanced system settings.
- 4. Next, in the Advanced tab find the Performance section and click the Settings button.
- 5. Go to Data Execution Prevention tab. Select Turn on DEP for all programs and services except those I select. Now click the Add button.
- 6. Locate the .exe file of the program you wish to run. For MTW, first select the "Not Listed" category at the top of the list, and then browse to the MTW exe file location: ("steamapps/common/Total War Medieval 1 Gold/Medieval_TW")
- 7. After you’ve added MTW to the DEP exclusion list, click Apply and OK to save the changes.

**NOTE: changing DEP settings might affect the other programs on your PC (I wouldn't know), so please weigh the potential consequences vs. your desire to play MTW.**

I confirm that changing DEP settings worked for MTW. Before this change I could not even pass the first year on the campaign map without crashing; now I as Byzantines can straight-up eliminate the Turks and Egyptians without fear of crashing.
