Just bought this today, I played it years ago when it first came out. I cannot remember how to initiate the cheat code. can anyone help

I tried to use this cheats and it`s works!
You must just start to play new game and when you are in the game just start to write a code. And it must work! Also it works in saved games. So if you already play that game without cheat codes you can used them!

Updates may wipe out the ability to use so-called "cheat" codes. there are certainly many ways around this, but the simplest is to just buy or download a vanilla version of the CD of Medieval/Viking Invasion I and install it on your PC and play it outside of Steam. We have an installation with about ten different mods running on an eleven year old PC that is rarely hooked up to the internet let alone Steam, and MTW I runs just fine and dandy on there, and you can pick your mod. It's such a good game, that it's worth keeping an old PC around to play it.

How to disable the cheats if I don't want them anymore?

Hi,
Do you need to enter dearinger every time you save and reload your game? because I've had a few times that after entering the cheat .deadringer. 1,000,000 florins and after x number of turns I got -999,475 and got more and more ?? does anyone know why this is happening?

.badgerbunny. for construction building selection menu. make sure you save first then log out completely to avoid other factions use this code. you really dont want them have a headstart.

No letters appear on the screen. You just type it in. The only cheat I use is the one to generate a son if it looks like I'm going to have an endgame from a lack of kids, and I didn't notice any sounds, but the kid came along next turn. Have you tried waiting/playing a turn after typing it?

if nothing happens hit esc. The menu comes up. Just return to the game (resume). This resets the field so your typing doesn't confuse the game due to a wrong number of "." entered.
I too had some issues as of late. Just keep at it. They will eventually take. If you don't hear the game sound in response to your cheat command try this.

".worksundays." works only once

I'm unsure about the status of some of these shortcuts with updates to MTW on steam. One signal point on ".worksundays." is, you can only enter it once. if you attempt to enter it more than once, it will not work. However, I should note that I generally have experienced crash issues playing MTW on steam, and thus I still play the game on an older PC with the original disc from decades ago, if I play it at all. I think generally speaking it's an old game that was fun for our kids to play, and thus it brings back nice memories. Also, it's an excellent teaching tool to teach medieval history.

too bad that there's no cheat for salt in all your locations

as best as I can recall, the 4 basic resources common to all provinces are gold, silver, iron and copper. If you have all four you can build a metalsmith, and if you have a metalsmith, you can add points to the value of your troops armor.

salt by contrast is only found in some provinces, as I can remember.

but there may be a shortcut to getting it. ask around. I just am not aware of it.

as i said in my prior comment, I am a few years removed from playing this game regularly, and I am certain I posted this guide several years ago.

i do believe it (and the original Rome Total War) remain classic, vintage computer games of the Total War franchise. MTW II was ok, Empire TW and Napoleon TW have their advocates, but I'm not a huge fan of RTW II or the reboot of RTW that just came out.

Besides which, nothing is better than an old refurbished PC running off the grid (web) and running those old classic games. As an engineer/scientist, I love vintage equipment!

Narrowed the problem why the game crashes when doing siege. When using all cheat codes directed by Artorius, leave out step to enter .matheosartori. (fog of war). This will eliminate any issues you maybe having with crashes. Hope this helps....

Cheats work on first playthrough for me. But if i exit game and return later the cheats dont work anymore
