I can't get it too right now, its the movement that is stuck for me my mouse and trackpad can't be used to direct troops but everything else worked that I tried. Still unplayable if you can't direct forces though.

I solved this issue using dgVoodoo 2. Firstly, let me state my specs just in case:

Dell Inspiron 15 5510
CPU: Intel Core i5-11320H 4.50 GHz 3.20 GHz 2.50 GHz
GPU (Integrated): Intel Iris Xe (96 EUs, DirectX 12.1, OpenGL 4.6, OpenCL 3.0, Vulkan 1.3.275, 8 GB Shared VRAM) Dell OEM driver version 31.0.101.5333, A16
RAM: DDR4-3200 16 GB (15.7 GB Usable)
OS: Windows 11 Home 21H2 x64
Storage: 256 GB NVMe SSD

Although the game was released on Steam with a few improvements, such as widescreen support and using DirectX 9 instead of DirectX 7 (although, according to some players, some content was removed/cut), it still has compatibility issues, either with Windows 10/11 or certain GPUs and/or drivers, and this mouse click bug is apparently caused by it.

How do I know, well I had the same issue everyone here has, I could not "move" my units by clicking on the terrain. The only way I could move them was by clicking on the mini-map. I tried choosing software mode but it crashed the game for me, so using that was not in the cards,

Then I was reading through the threads here and found this https://steamcommunity.com/app/345240/discussions/0/405694115209190840/ and in the third comment, pogran_ states that this is a known issue with some GPU's and drivers.

And it makes sense, this game was released around 24 years ago, and it isn't going to work properly with todays hardware & software. And while it was released on steam with the improvements mentioned above, those were more of a band-aid to get the game working on newer OSs and GPUs rather than a proper solution.

Then I recalled this program called dgVoodoo 2, and figured to give it a shot with Shogun. And to my surprise, it worked, I could finally move my units as intended using the left mouse click.

I have made a detailed step my step guide on how to set up and use dgVoodoo 2 with Shogun: Total War on pcgamingwiki. https://www.pcgamingwiki.com/wiki/Shogun:_Total_War#Unable_to_move_units_by_clicking_on_the_terrain.2Fground

It is weird that Creative Assembly have not fixed this issue, especially since it literally makes the game unplayable and that many players are experiencing it, hence making it a critical bug. Anyways, I hope this fix helps everyone affected by this issue.

For those who do not know how to use it, or do not want to go through the hassle, I have uploaded the pre-configured dgVoodoo 2 settings for Shogun: Total War here https://mega.nz/folder/FREwEbYJ#SKxvN260yA96pcp7AfrwLg
Mirrors: https://multiup.io/3313f983ed2c14efeba9f6a2a261e181

Just copy all the files inside the folder to where the game's .exe is located. How do you know if it is working, well it should show a dgVoodoo 2 watermark at the bottom right of the screen, but more importantly, the mouse click issue should be resolved.

Edit 1: There were some text rendering/corruption issues when using dgVoodoo 2, at least for me, due to some compatibility issue with dgVoodoo 2's Direct3D 11 (feature level 11.0). So I have changed dgVoodoo 2 to use Direct3D 11 (feature level 10.1) instead, all text now renders fine and there are no issues so far.

Edit 2: I have made a detailed step my step guide on how to set up and use dgVoodoo 2 with Shogun: Total War on pcgamingwiki. https://www.pcgamingwiki.com/wiki/Shogun:_Total_War#Unable_to_move_units_by_clicking_on_the_terrain.2Fground

We need another HD rerelease of this game, do you agree? Compatibility problems are arising and becoming stronger and stronger as time passes. May CA update this game someday with a rerelease once current editions become unplayable?

I didn't buy the remaster of Rome Total War but I would buy one of this game.

It wouldn't necessarily be a remaster, but a cheap HD re-release basically. I think the latter is more realistic than a full remaster, do you agree?

If all they did was update the graphics and made it run well on modern hardware and OS that would be enough for me. But I wouldn't be adverse to a few additional game elements. Just don't make it a completely different game. We already have Shogun II for that.

Can somebody go into the advanced system settings and on the TABs, set the DEP to allow the .exe file and add it. I know for some old games you need to add the games .exe file to the DEP list. Before it starts to work. I also heard some old games can only run on dual cores. Can somebody press win+R and type "msconfig" and goto the boot tab , advanced options and set to 2 cores, restart and try the game to see if it runs better.
