SHOGUN: Total War™ - Collection

SHOGUN: Total War™ - Collection

Is this game worth buying?
I am thinking of starting playing a handful of total war games. This game seems interesting. I am also a sucker for old games. Does this game need fixing to run on windows 10 and is it easy and worth it for new players?

I have no problems playing it on Win10. It is still a great game.
Runs like a charm, really great gameplay, would buy a remastered version (preferably with a steam workshop) instantly.
It is a well designed game and that it is not over complex to me is a plus. The extent that you are able to build up your provinces is enough to get you to care about them without it becoming tedious as is the case of games which have an excessive number or upgrades for the provinces, The battles give a real feel for being actually in command. The rather crude implementation of sieges is the single bad point.
This is the TW game you should start with. They add features to even the 2nd game (Medieval Total War) that are not the easiest to grasp especially if you're still learning the basics. Hell, if you ask how exactly command works, no one seems to know exactly and that was introduced in this game. I still don't know how much it effects morale, honor, maybe combat effectiveness? I don't know whether it's an aura that only effects troops in a limited range or if it's map-wide. I don't know if it also applies to other troops brought into a province but not added to the general's stack of troops. There are enough factors, stats, units, buildings, tech paths, etc in the first game, and when it's on sale it's only $2.50. I hate myself for waiting so long to get into this series. Don't miss it for another second. There's a near 0% chance that you're ever going to say, "damn, I shouldn't have spent 2.50 on this." I don't even think if you bought it at full price you'd end up saying to yourself, "damn, I should have waited for a sale and saved 7.50."

Start with this one for sure, it's an amazing game. You don't even need to be a sucker for old games like you are, this holds up really well. Seeing as how you DO like old games though, you will have absolutely no problem with this. Ever since I got into this series, there's hardly been a day where I don't make progress in one campaign or another. I wouldn't even call warhammer 2 strictly better with how different it is.
The graphics are pretty bad, but other than that, it's a great game.
The game has a great concept, and it's worth paying a few dollars for it. Experiencing some old games once in a while will always feel nice.

Yeah sadly the graphics is so outdated, but the gameplay and overall atmosphere is absolute top notch, even so I am thinking to buy it on sale. Is there any graphics mod for this ?
I really want this game to be remastered alongside Medieval 1. Who else would like that happening? Finger crossed! I believe in Feral!
Still have the original Medieval TW 1 demo from what, a thousand years ago lol.
My all time favs
MTW1
MTW2
RomeTW
All bought day dot. The remakes lack any heart -family tree, blood lines and traits.
Now it's all graphics and nothing underneath the hood... :steambored:
@Bobby: That's why I would like to see Shogun 1, MTW1, Empire and MTW2 being remastered, more than a Medieval 3, Shogun 3, Rome 3 or Empire 2. The older games worked best, despite having their big flaws. Combining these older games as they are at their cores with remastered graphics, quality of life additions, tweaks and smaller new features here and there, modern interface, controls, camera, a multiplayer and coop campaign plus extended moddability with full Steam Workshop support would really nail it and deserve all my money! Those would be truly perfect at that point! Finger crossed!!

We can dream…. Problem is unless it hits consoles as well it’s more niche and nobody wants to spend cash, other than the defacto 4K resolution. I’ve just seen that Rise of the Triads is coming out with 4K and a few ends tacked on. Just pretty mundane.
Maybe if we hadn’t had the Empire TW and R TW2 types then the ‘hunger’ may have been there.
We’re pretty much niche gamers as well. Look at the whiners on the System Shock remake because there’s a pixel in it…
At one time gameplay was number one, as you yourself said, now it’s graphics first -to justify the RTX# outlay- gameplay is a low feature.
Me? I’ll play pretty much anything as long as it’s good. Nearly anything ;)

Yeah, we just have to wait and hope! Future is unpredictable, so you'll never now what is going to happen ;)
