Keep in mind that you'll be adding a bunch of recruits to the unit so it will dilute its honor. On the other hand you can add weapon and armor upgrades to it at no cost.
if you have a full troop of honor 1 Samurai Archers and retrain them in Totomi (+1 honor archers) in a famous Archery Dojo (+1 honor) each man will have its honor improved to 2 so the whole troop will have a honor of at least 2 (the average honor of the individual men) + any boni of existing other upgrades (armor, weapon, drill, palace).
in the beginning when I have my first armory I try to circle my troops through so all can get the bonus. Also retraining only takes 1 turn. I try to replenish my troops to save time in training.
