Game saves
Just started the game, its probably obvious but I am trying to understand how the game saves work. I can't seem to find where the game indicates that it has just saved. I have quit in a few places in the game thinking it was a save point to find out it wasn't and I lost some of my progress. Wish it had the option to just click and save wherever you are at.

The game is constantly resaving your items, XP, completed challenges and quests, unlocked achievements, etc.

The one thing that is not saved are the state of the monsters and the challenge progress. It's because in Victor Vran you restart the maps whenever you go to the Hub or leave the game.

The checkpoints are temporary saves, which exist while you're on the map. If you die, you will respawn at the last checkpoint you interacted with.

The second paragraph here seems to imply that monsters and challenge progress should be reset when the player dies, but death doesn't actually seem to reset either of these. The monsters that were dead before remain dead after the player resurrects, and I don't think the in-progress challenges revert either, though that one I could be mistaken about. I've certainly had more than a few instances where upon death, I've simply had to run back to the monsters I was fighting before, without having to re-kill any enemies.

Does that mean that this is unintended? It would certainly explain one of my biggest problems with the game thus far, that being that deaths seem to have no real consequence (although I wouldn't mind a bit more consequence than that, personally).

Sorry for the misleading. I were thinking about an outdated game design. The map doesn't restart on death. I've edited my comment.

Alright, thanks for the reply. That's kind of a shame, I liked the idea of a stronger punishment on death.

I don't understand the save mechanism. I've made it to the sewer and exited the game yet I start back to the beginning. Help me understand or I'm just going to refund my money.

All your overall game progression (Level, Quests, Inventory) is always saved.

Map progression (unfinished Challenges, Monsters) will reset, as soon as you leave the Map or reset manually.

I got that. But for instance, the very beginning...you need to make it to the castle entrance. Isn't that considered a quest complettion? If so then shouldn't that be where I start if I quit the game?
If that isn't the case then can you please tell me where the game progression get's saved.

I think, when you reach the hub, the quest is complete, but when you quit before reaching the hub, you have to start from the very beginning.

The Hub is the place, where you have access to vendors and the Map, you can´t miss it, when following the Questline.

Can´t really remember how long the tutorial was, but shouldn´t take that long.

Edit: Maps can have multiple zones, so they actually all reset, when you leave.

I do enjoy this game but the only gripe I have is how the save system works. It should just save wherever your character is standing at.

I agree! A map resetting when I leave it? That's horrible! It's not that they were small. This fact forces me to play in big chunks while I often prefer toplay in short intervalls for half an hour to an hour or so. Now my map resets everytime and I have to do the same thing over and over and over again except I have three spare hours or even more to complete a map??
Devs, please, this is ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥. Would you please implement a proper save system that saves the progress wherever I am whenever I leave the game?!?!
No idea how a save system like this made it in a game like this. *sigh* And I was so looking forward to playing this game :ChipSad:
Makes it unplayable for me.

I just toughed it out and got used to the save system. After a while it didn't seem quite as bad. I've played the game through a couple times beginning to end already. Turned out to be more of a lack of understanding how the save system does work. Once I had it down it works OK. Still I would prefer to save wherever I am at and start out there. But the current save system does't really bother me anymore.

The saves are the weak point of the game.

In the other games you can save when you like, where it has sometimes been half of a map but we must start all over again ...

Just as in the wells without end, or rendered at the end I am dead and i had to all me retyping of the beginning!
This is handheld ...

Ehh.. there are lots of games that, when starting and loading, puts you back at a Hub..
A few examples: Path of Exile, Diablo 1 and 2 (diablo 3 kind of have this), Heck even Super Mario 64/Sunshine/Galaxy have this save system.

The maps reset for a reason, and that reason is grind!

How do you even complete a map? Make the challanges and find the secrets, that is the only thing to really complete, and those things gets saved as you complete them.

And there is really no progress on a map.. if you dont want to kill everything, just run past it.

And if you simply touch the exits (that leads to other maps) you can jump straight to the other areas, from the hub, without even putting you feet on the previous map..

And lastly.. no one is forcing you to play.. But before you whine, please understand how it works..
