Demon Souls are tradable with GebaN only at the end of the Cauldron of Chaos, which is also where you can earn them in daily challenges (more reliably than getting the occasional one as loot). Be warned that his prices go up to 100 Demon Souls for some items.

I have picked up one Demon Soul during the story run and couldn't trade it to GebaN when I found him. So now I know that Cemetery Grounds isn't the place where Demon Souls could be traded to him.
