Afaik Overkill is if you deal atleast a certain % (not sure how much is it actually) of enemy max. hp more then what is required to kill it.
A.e. if the percentage would be 20% and the max. hp of an enemy is 200:
1.) dealing 240+ dmg with 1 hit would overkill the enemy
2.) dealing 150 dmg first, then if the next hit deals atleast 90+ dmg it overkills
3.) making the enemy bleed so he's left at 1hp (since bleeding can't kill) would make an attack that deals atleast 41+ dmg overkill
..and so on..
I finally got what I was after with hammer attacks.
