I don't understand how slavery works at all. I have four slave markets in Africa as Portugal I don't understand how to take those slaves and bring them into my country. I want them on Madiera to cultivate sugar. The markets seem to enslave 50 pops and then free them within the same month. I never actually get any slaves into my country.

yeah that's an issue with the slave centers you build it in African country to enslave the pop but since the enslaved pop is of accepted culture and religion they get freed instantly, one solution is to get a vassal in Africa have with different religion from you and conquer land of different culture and religion that of the vassal and build slave center there you will be able to get slave from these land where they wont be freed, the problem is after a while the vassal will ether tolerate that culture or accept them then you will have to do the same thing with different culture, to be honest they need to fix the slaving mechanic or at least not making freeing the slave instant if they are tolerated or accept they should but a limit like 20 slave to be freed each moth or something like that

Yeah I think that's the problem lol

You need to have slave conversion policy disabled, you cant enslave christians as a christian.
