No, seriously.... I consolidated the HRE, became established as emperor, and somehow my king gets excommunicated randomly by the pope.

So much for organizing a crusade I suppose..

There are historical examples of Holy Roman Emperors that were excommunicated.

One even marched down to Rome, deposed the Pope and put in a new Pope that was loyal to the Emperor.

Historically several Holy Roman Emperors were excommunicated.

The HRE was neither holy, nor Roman and usually only arguably an empire and regularly in pissing matches with the Pope, why wouldn't they get excommunicated?

Also, I formed the Holy Roman Empire country, united the entirety of central Europe, I then converted to Protestantism, marched down to Rome and annihilated the papacy as well as every other Catholic country in Europe.

I now rule an empire with 230 million pops and my income every month is 40k+

It's better to be Protestant, no dumb Pope to screw things up. Don't you want to be free?
