Is there any known way to run EU5 on a CPU without AVX2 (e.g. Sandy Bridge / i7-2600K)?
Even experimental or unsupported solutions would be fine.

Message to the devs (if you read this):
I understand why AVX2 is required, but if an official fallback or experimental mode is technically possible (even with heavy performance loss), it would be greatly appreciated.
If not, a clear confirmation would also help.

Yes, Ill have to look up the exact details of it, but in short, you run an emulator that can process avx2, launch the game, let the resources fully load then close out of the game and emulator, relaunch and enjoy.

I am playing on an AMD FX9370 which does not have AVX2 at all. Ill reply to my comment with the exact steps to be able to play once i find where i saved the info for it.

Yes, you can try the Intel Software Development Emulator to emulate AVX2.

Search for the Intel SDE> Downloadn and install/extract.
Create a shortcut from SDE.exe, edit the properties, in the target box you will want something along the lines of the following. C:\Users\Computer\Desktop\SDE\sde-external-9.53.0-2025-03-16-win\sde.exe -hsw -- "C:\SteamLibrary\steamapps\common\Europa Universalis V\binaries\eu5.exe"

Save and close property dialog. > Right click shortcut and run as administrator. this is going to be laggy and take some time. A black cmd window will appear, leave it alone. EU5 should launch and load, it will be lagging and have very low FPS, just let it load. Once it makes it to the main menu let it load the resources. Once it finishes loading resources exit the game and close black cmd window. You should now be able to play EU5 normally. AVX2 is only needed for the initial resource load.

While the SDE is running, it will use up a lot of memory and cpu, this is normal, just allow it to process through.

If you google "EU5 crashes on loading resources" there should be better write ups on this.

Unfortunately, this doesn’t work. I noticed that sed is a 32-bit version — could that be the problem? And does anyone know if there is a 64-bit version available?
