How close is this game to Crusader Kings 3?

I realize it's mostly based on Europa Universalis 4

But I saw it has quite a bit of characters, family tree, marriages etc

How much character focused stuff or actions are in the game? And can you name people like how you can name people in CK3?

characters are a bit more then EUIV but in reality they are not the focus.

They are about as relevant as they were in something like "total war Shogun 2". As in they exist, got a family tree so you can look history and they have stats that you need and you marry them to make good relations. Beyond that they don't matter, once you marry your ruler off you wont care for him again until he dies and you have to do it again for the next.
It doesn't look much like it, and the aspects from ck3 are quite superficial.
There's slightly more characters dependence than EUIV, i didn't have my ruler marry, so no kids, so the heir is instead the son her sister. Unfortunately his father stopped being a monarchy ruler, is not a biship instead, so won't get to see what happens.

Are you able to at least name the characters, so I can remmember them and get a bit more attached to them?

I'm fine with it not being full blown CK3 since I already have that game. Just wondering how much character stuff there is, i'm fine with just a bit as long as I can name them and do a bit of stuff with em.
CK3 is pretty much a eugenics and incest simulator. EU5 is not.
CK3 is an RPG with rudimentary grand strategy elements. EU5 is very much a grand strategy game. They are very different.
Far far far away.

CK3 focus on you roleplaying as a character and the character and its interaction is the entire focus, all is about those and the events they get.. (yes I know some use it as a painter, but that is becuase they have no clue about it being a character focused game)

In EU5 you control the country (you are the spirit of the country) and you will build the country up and ofc have pop/trade play as well (if it has to be compared to anything it is the vicky series, that it borrow a tad from with pops this time)

But overall, if you want a more characer focused experience then CK3 it is, if you want a more country focused, then EU5.. but both are great.. it just depends on what you are in the mood for.

With all that said. You will have an easier time adapting (if you never played EU series) to EU5 if you played CK3, as some UI and mechanics make more sense to you.

I have hundreds of hours in both EU4 and CK2 and 3, I know what the games are. That wasn't what I was asking though just how deep this character feature and mechancis are and what stuff there are too it.

It is EU style.

Was just wondering if I could at least name my people and have any interraction. I know it won't be up to scale to CK3, that's fine. Just didn't feel like buying it if it's nothing more than a portrait and that is it.
There's actual depth and without the 5 paragraph novellas everywhere you can actually roleplay better.

Plus if you missed 3 flank armies from CK2, guess who's back babeyyyy
The decision about which game to get was Crusader Kings 3 vs Europa Universalis V for me, I got EU5 because it has a cooler name and is more focused on geopolitics.

You can name children born etc.. but it is not character based ala CK3.. it is just a tad more fielded out EU mechanic. I like the game a lot.. Already spent way to many hours in it and it is not hard.

I saw people saying Portugal was to hard and so forth.. I am in 1422 and have Portugal + all of Habat, Aragon in personal union, already discovered and coloniced Canary, Madeira and Azored.. I have plenty of income and was never really in a struggle economically.

With that said, I do understand why newcomers or people not understanding the new mechanics, would have a very hard time as Portugal, despite it being "noob" country to test the new mechanics with.
