Spending Balance
I get it. Tying the spending to the income makes it balanced. That way you will always have to spend a lot if you want full diplo/stability/court. However this makes it frustrating for people who play a OPM and want to play tall as one. I am playing as Lübeck and in 1411 I have a income of 174.69 as OPM without any taxing anyone. Which sounds insane to most people I bet, but hey I am roleplaying a merchant city geared towards trade. Through that I am at place 4 on the top earners, behind castille with 207.62.

Wanna know how much profit I make right now with full diplo and stability spending? 0.44 And since my republican tradition is at max I do not spend a lot for court, if I had to spend there I would be sitting at -60. -60!!!!!!! AS A OPM WITH 174.69 INCOME. Mind you I do not have a army. I do not have any mercenaries.

I am sorry but that is mad. Why do I have to spend so much money as a OPM on stability with a population of 90k in my one location, which is probably more than for example Hungary spends with a population of 3 million!!!!!!

That's just so unrealistic and unbalanced, you are literally taking away the one thing my roleplay is good at. It's dumb.

And for the seething people: no I love this game. It's great. But you have to admit that is just mad.

Out of general curiosity, can you post a screenshot of your balance sheet?
Cost of the court seems reasonable. However, the diplo and stability costs look way too inflated for an OPM. Are there government reforms or privileges that could be causing those to skyrocket?
Going through the tooltips, i can see that trade income is part of what determines the cost of those, although your tooltips might explain why those 2 are so much higher.

Well it seems reasonable if that was the max imo. Which it isn't it's the minimum.

Yea I don't like that. At all. Is it balanced for OPM where obviously your main income will be trade?
So let me get this straight...I can just cease trading and max the sliders and pay nothing? That sounds...cheesy and regarded but if that is the way it is so be it.
On my game, the costs for diplomacy and stability are lower than court, that's why i mentioned looking at the tooltip for the price on those.

If something's making it more expensive, it's probable that it's mentioned there, might be some kind of "over cap" penalty or something.

It depends on base economy, ergo base tax and trade income. Which means the only way you can really circumvent it seems to be vassals as far as I can tell. If you don't have those that give good moneys, you can pretty much have only 1 slider maxed to get decent income. if you have two maxed you get almost nothing or lose a bit and if 3 are maxed you lose a ♥♥♥♥ ton of money.

Pretty dumb maybe they will address this we will see.

EDIT: small update, with the patch that dropped I am now at 200 income as I can finally build trade offices in places where I previously was unable to. If this continues I will probably have more income than france at some point as OPM. Pretty cool. If you like the merchant life, I can recommend...well besides these insane expenses ofc but you can just turn them sliders off and make decent amounts of money and then turn them up when you really need them and have saved up cash.
Same problem here. I earn 250 ducats from trade with The Hansa, but I can barely afford mercenaries or buildings because of diplomacy, court, and stability expenses. In my view, the issue is the extremely high “economic base” value for my country, which is used to calculate these costs.

Income:
6 minting
8 taxes
280 trade
5 diplomacy

This somehow translates into an economic base of 930 ducats. That can’t be right.

(you see the drop from before the patch to after in the economic graph)

This basically killed my run.

True for mine at 170 it was 610. They then use around 10% of that as the value for each slider. It seems like trade income is falsely calculated in that, they use the base value of the trade. Ergo how much profit you get without any expenses factored in. So not profit but base value of just selling the good in the market, so no buying, no transporting is subtracted from that. I think that is how you arrive at such inflated values which means trade maxers are highly punished.
this ♥♥♥♥ needs to get reworked. diplo/stability/court costs are teribly designed. it rly shows when u play underdog nations and every good and bad action rly matters. math is so stupid builing a road to your vassal results in diplo getting more expensive....

diplo/stability/court costs need to scale logicly like mil and building costs
i rather have those things well thought out, then 3485 buttons and menus
True, with the 1.0.2 patch something changed. Did not pay much attention what my Economic base was back then, but my balance got from 500 monthly to 250. Now my economic base is 2500 ducats, with getting 500 ducats from trade profit and about 25 ducats from other sources. This does not sound right to me...
Also how do you even play as the hanseatic league? I can't select them and as Lübeck I don't have the option to lead it either. I can only declare independence, which is pretty much not possible since that leads to a war against the HRE emperor.
The Hanseatic League is an extraterritorial country, like the badi bank. You only can build buildings and have subjects, but you will not be able to have actual land.

You can select this "country" when you start a new game and search for the name "Hanseatic League" with the country search in the top right of the screen (the flag icon)
