Been away from EU5 a while... is it worth looking at again?
I played the game around release then stepped away. How's things now? It always seemed like they still can't figure the basics out and things are constantly changing when I take a peek at forums here and their official forums. The road map showed "exploration" in the future...what does that mean? Is exploration right now just broken and not worth engaging with? That's the one thing that's making me want to play, I'd like to try to race to the Americas and colonize. If not exploring, how's about a Poland game, or a Knight Order, are those working alright?

I know there will be extreme naysayers, I don't want haters replies. But just a honest thought of the current state of the game. Is it really just a mess still, or are things running ok and just need fine tuning that they're working on??

EU5 is worse than it was at launch. The devs have displayed a real lack of vision and, as a result, mechanics lurch from one extreme to another without a clear destination in sight.

As for your exploration question, it and colonization aren't going to be fixed until sometime next year--if they aren't made worse than they already are by supposed fixes, like so many other things have been.
I don't think there has been major changes to exploration or colonies.

Poland itself is kinda ok, you can ally Hungary who is usually major blob. Also Bohemia is not constantly conquering Poland anymore. Lithuania is still broken and there is no PLC.

Personally I feel the game has improved a lot, the rebels make more sense for example. I do play with auto-trade and auto-build and 10+ mods to speed up various countdowns, plus some changes to available size of the armies.

1.4 that is coming out soon has sped up the game as the hourly ticks were replaced with daily ticks like in EU4. But the 2 DLCs so far only affect Byzantion and Castile/Morocco. So if you are not fan of these nations there is not much point buying the DLCs. I do not think EU5 has anywhere near amount of per-country content as EU4 does, it is still very much economy simulator with a lot of limits of expanding your borders.
Im waiting for the big patch on 28th
The AI is more aggressive in beta 1.4.3 and it's expansion looks more reasonable in general, but the HRE mechanics were still broken in my 1618 spectator game.
HRE was united by little Brabant in 1618, no league wars declared and most Italian countries stayed in the HRE.
Great Britain kept a bit of Normandy because France was too scared to fight it. Ottomans kept getting ganked by Hungary and Mamluks. Muscovy did well first but then somehow lost the race to all other Eastern European countries.
Oh god, I looked up the roadmap.

Is this Rio Salado free update what you're talking about on the 28th?
If so omg wtf! This sh!t is straight up open beta BS. All that should already be part of the game on release HOLY SH!T
Wait to Spring 2027 for ****** Siege Mechanics?!?
Exploration and Colonization some time in later 2027 they don't even know! FFS!!
This is pathetic. FML well I'm not touching this game at all.
Wow, just wow!
Sieges exist, so does exploration and colonization. They are simply reworking those systems so they aren't just a copy paste of EU4. My honest feelings about the game is that the devs have not made any real progress over this last year. I'm planning on playing a 1.0 version of the game to see if that is true.
I still enjoy EU4 better
I gave up on the latest open beta because it just kept crashing. So if you return to the game, I'd use 1.3 version. I like some of the changes in the beta, but it's unstable.
No - just garbage ATM.
I've uninstalled and gave a thumbs down review. This game is a joke. They should just scrap the game. I'm not a Imperator: Rome lover but I'd rather the team go and resurrect that then even bother with EU5 at this point. Even if not I:R just quit work on this game, it was released as a dumpster fire, and the flames are still raging.
Because of the wide divergence they took from EU4, an experiment so to speak, they should've never front loaded DLC for sale; they should've seen how the game panned out, and then taken this past year to polish it, tweak it, and tighten up all of the little things. But the game is clearly not gaining any traction right now, and I don't think it will, but they'll just keep pushing out the DLC. Problem is, this isn't CK3, but they're acting like it is which is a mistake because I'm seeing two separate audiences between the two games.
