creative mode/sandbox mode?

the whole reason I bought this was because I was under the impression that the missions were side dishes compared to the main course which was supposed to be "do whatever the hell I want mode". am I missing something here? the graphics I can get over, the controls I can get over, but if I cant just freely build whatever I want then this is garbage and a waste of time. is this a planned feature at least? can someone give me some kind of info here?

you have the missions and you have a variety of different sceneries with flat grounds, an empty space, a lake, castle, different terrains. At all of them you have a lot of ressources and you can just build the construction you want.
