Lenght?
Strictly in my opinion only but fault milestone one was way too short for it's price.

milestone two side:above costs the same but it's only half of the second milestone.
So my question: How long it is? I did try to look but some of the recommendations have over 20 hours of gameplay and some of them have only a few hours.

For reference it took me about 7 hours to read milestone one.

If ms1 took you 7 hours then I'd say ms2:a should take you around 8-9 hours. Personally it took me a tad over 9 hours if I recall correctly. I'm fairly sure it's a bit longer than ms1, however it doesn't seem it to some people who played the demo as they'd already half played it before it came out.

The reviews are all over the place in terms of hours for three reasons. First some people played the untranslated version before it was on steam. Second the demo is rather long so that also reduces the read time for people who read that first as it predates the full game. Lastly on the other side of things there's a bug a couple of people, myself included, are suffering from where steam doesn't think the game has stopped running. Fortunately it's purely cosmetic and doesn't stop you playing other steam games and they've said they are working on a solution.
Well, I just finished the game, but I had it open all day to listen to it's beautiful soundtrack (i ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ cant wait for the release)

But I would estimate my playtime was about 6-10h. I did play the demo, but I also did replay the part again. So it is pretty much the same size as fms1

Costs the same, but the naming is another issue altogether..

CURRENT STATE OF THE fault SERIES

Published Jul 26, 2015

ANNOUCEMENT A

So now that the cat is out of the bag, I’d like to a clear a few things up that may be causing confusion as well as present how we are planning to release the subsequent installments of fault.

First of all, milestone 2 will be broken up into two segments: A for above(上) and B for below(下). We decided to do this for 2 reasons. First, the story got too long and substantial to sell at a 15 dollar price point which we aren’t planning to raise, and second, if we crammed in both we won’t be able to release ms2 till sometime later in 2016. We’re actually very optimistic about this decision though since it forced us to reign a few elements of the story in that could have gotten out of control. “Art from adversity” is something we always try to keep in mind.

Now, some of you may be wondering if milestone two side:above is just half a story. It’s not. Just like milestone one, it has it’s own ending and will work as a standalone installment. Volume wise, side:above is on par, or even even longer than milestone one. I just wanted to make it clear that we’re not selling you a half completed product just to rush things out. In fact, the original plan was to sell side:above as milestone two and below as milestone 3 but I decided against this for 1 specific reason and thats to preserve a consistent theme with each milestone.

I can’t really get into details without spoiling the story… but basically milestone two has a very specific theme and A and B are different ways of exploring said theme. It would be out of place to call side:below milestone 3 because it’s quite literally not a milestone on its own. The same goes for above.

ANNOUNCEMENT B

Also, we will be sandwiching Silence the Pedant (StP from this point on) between ms2 side:above and below.

Meaning, the releases will go in the order as follows:
fault - milestone two side:above
fault - SILENCE THE PEDANT
fault - milestone two side:below

This is to fulfill our promise to our Kickstarter backers in a timely manner and to tell a way better side:below story. Hare-san and I have thought very hard about this structure and we’ve specifically designed ms2a and ms2b so StP can be sandwiched in between. We’re planning to finish StP by Q1 of 2016.

All in all, if you have faith in us, try not to worry too much the structure. We promise you that you, the reader, is the who we are constantly thinking about when designing these stories. How can we deliver the best story possible within the limitations that we have? This is our answer and we hope you enjoy the ride.

PS.

Also, don’t you all want to see Rughzenhaide!? A 14 year old Ritona and a 9 year old Selphine?? With the premise that Ritona abhors the country of Rughzenhaide!?!? Forgive me for being excited. I’ve been wanting to do StP for a while as it was the first story that I plotted (even before ms1). Hare-san wasn’t even a part of ALICE IN DISSONANCE at the time.

Personally I believe that milestone one, two (A+B) and Silence the Pedant combined is the true “introduction” to the fault series.

Thanks for your time!
The lenght of the game is fine for the price they ask.
Yeah it does feel that it is short, but it doesn't feel that it isn't worth the money they are asking.

Well, I just finished it. Fault 1 took me about 5 hours to get through. Steam says I've only played 2 S:A for 2 hours, but that doesn't...feel accurate. I wonder if some of the time I spent went unrecorded. Maybe it has to do with the thing that happens at the beginning. It was definitely somewhat shorter though, I think.
Sometimes steam won't recognise the game and will remove your playing status shortly after starting. I guess exactly that happened to you at the beginning and you played the remaining game without steam recognising it.

Well both of them took me around 6 hours each.

It's short (it's not) because you just want to read it forever and ever, but the decision they made was a good one. You also can't say the production values here are low because it feels like there's some new art and stuff every minute or so.

It's more than a fair price to ask for this level of quality writing and presentation. Hyped for future episodes!

It only took me a little over 3 hours to read the second game. It's way too short.

still worth it.

I think it's a good decision though, not much people will pay like 40€ for a VN even if they know it has a huge amount of hours to play, because after all you can't be certain if you will like the VN or not, and you have the demos that already cover most of the part of the actual game to decide for yourself if you want to give it a shot or not.

i read rather fast, so it took me aaround 6-7 hours now to wait for ms3 ;-;..
ms3 will be a looooong wait. First there will be silence the pedant and after that we need ms2 side:below. THEN, we will get ms3. Which will be 2017 at best.

I had it on auto, and I completed it in a bit less than 10 hours, with the occational stop, which was almost the same as the firs one, but I read the first one at my own pace, so I imagine the second should be 1-2 hours longer, worth it if you get it on sale.

I've spent more on manga that take less time to read, aren't in color, and don't have music.

These are cheap for what you're getting.
