Kinda. Originally it was called Front Mission 2089: Borderscape, but the devs and Squeenix parted ways. Hence the rebranding and new (if still heavily FM inspired) IP.

It started off as a new Front mission years ago, and then changed ownership (also years ago) which resulted in being rebranded. I can't for the life of me remember the timeline exactly. I am quite excited to see we are getting a western release.

Agreed, seen plenty of high quality releases for many years already where funding comes from things like cosmetics while avoiding the pay to win angle.

Plenty of games manage that with cosmetics, not arbitrarily locking game content behind paywalls and ♥♥♥♥♥♥ gambling mechanics. I'll gladly pay up front for all content, but will never pay for any gacha game. Such a shame.

It's free to play. It isn't done right. The only reason to go F2P is because you think you can make more money than if you'd charged a fair amount upfront.
