How to level other heroes?

I recruited a 2nd hero in my party, which makes 2 heroes. When I kill monsters in any map, only my main hero gets exp, while the new hero stays level 1 forever. Anyone know?

You can split the xp between seperate characters, or build one at a time. In my opinion, the best way I use experience is to use it on one character at a time, getting all skills unlocked for a better game play experience.
