Resolution Scaling

So I have done some research on the topic and most results suggest that there is no support for resolution scaling in the game. However, I can't help but ask whether or not this is true. I would really LOVE to have some crisp images on my 4K monitor but I have to deal with blurry sprites and black borders.

So my question is, "how can I scale the game's resolution up or down if possible? Is there a mod around that implements 4K support? I really love this game and I think I would love it even more if I was able to appreciate the scenery and fish in complete detail.

A few updates back I doubled the sprite size for most of the fish, so they should look more crisp than before. But the engine doesn't support sprites above a certain size. The largest sprites (boats and the parallax backgrounds) already push this limit, and there isn't much I can do to improve it beyond that.
