Need ideas for The Viper prime(I) from the holiday event bonus
I seriously have no clue what to do with this thing and I kinda wish I could sell it just for the free mech bay but since I'm stuck with it I need some ideas for this or it's just gonna get stripped of all it's parts and sit in my bay

The best I came up with was 4x Flamers and 4x HMGs but didn't really like that either.

2 heavy small laser, srm6(2 tons of ammo), and 2 heavy machine guns(2 tons of ammo).

My standard build.

all lasers
or lasers and mgs
or srms

if you mix too much you'll be hitting weapon groups of varying heat that the average player cannot properly track

Most of you can't hit your thumb buttons without a split second of thought and thats when you die (this is a joke)

Just pick any Viper's variant mix (anything w/o so8) and slap it onto Prime's CT.

Whenever i see anyone putting more that a ton of ammo for MGs i feel like they are just tired of living. Especially if you are bringing a ton for each MG.

maybe its the opposite? them hoping to live for more than a single duel?
ofc usually other equipment might be more important for chances of winning that single duel and whatever follows... not sure what to install instead tho, didnt look into viper build yet

Perhaps its the tabletop talking in me, but i feel like a ton is often more that enough and putting more will just increace the chance of you blowing up.

Ah yes, ammo detonation would be annoying. Luckily in MWO crits aren't so bad as to frequently blast a mech before it's basically dead anyway (no thru-armor crits, and once armor is gone Viper's RT will be left with measily 20 structure, along with ammo itself having 10 hp (as opposed to breaking to any damage) - RT will almost certainly break before ammo does).
Ofc when RT is destroyed, ammo will roll for exploding anyway, but without RT pure viper prime (which I assume they're running judging by suggested loadout) will be left with just SRM-6 (if their left hand didn't die yet) and with speed reduction; at that point 19%* of dying to ammo explosion doesn't matter that much anyway.
(* unless they put 1 ton of ammo and CASE in RT and other ton into CT, which reduces it to 0. Not sure if its necessary and not harmful tho. )

EDIT I'm dumb I forgot Viper is an OmniMech so it has CASE-like protection everywhere by default. Meaning can (mostly) safely put any ammo.

Sometimes i forget how much mechwarrior butchers the idea of crits. I guess kinda deserved considering that you can just run to a mech with a bunch of HMG and just destroy the backarmor, thus in theory allowing way too many crits per second.
Or the crits to the engine. Or the crits to the leg. Or crits to the gyroscope removing mechs from the game.

2 Heavy large lasers for medium range skirmish. Either in the arm with SO8, or one in each side torso, if you prefer peeking over hills, and a more balanced build. Kinda hot builds.

2 MPL (side torsos), 4 ERSL (arms). Short range brawling. Higher dps, more risk. (what I run atm). Mobility is key for surviving.

Can also do 6 ERML. Or 4 heavy ML. Or 2-4 heavy ML or ERML + 8 LMG.

Speaking of which, does anyone else have a bug with its camo? When I turn back from a match, I see it with its initial yellow camo. Although, if I mess around (e.g. pick another mech, and then back to it, or get inside the loadout, or get into a match), it gets back to the normal edited one.

Ok after some experimenting, found out that its better to have medium pulse lasers instead of heavy small. Yes you gotta spend extra weight (meaning you have to sac some armour and half ton of ammo for both HMG and SRM) but it is a tiny bit better than HSL with damage and also has much better range, allowing to output damage at longer ranges where you can't quite get close to the target. While Viper is decently fast, its also larger than piranhas and locusts, meaning that circling around the opponent's legs is not really doable, you have to be kinda skirmisher.

Funnily, while you can switch omnipods to put in more guns (such as 8x HMG build to kill lights), I've realized limited weight does limit the max performance you can get from viper regardless of pods. You'll have to specialize into either low-ammo high dps burster, or some laser skirmisher. Prime pure allows to have adequate dps (between all guns and quirks) with adequate sustain (ammo+heat) capabilities, so its not unviable. Just gotta not run towards main enemy force face on...
