Following MW5 Clans, there are a significant number of assets ported over UE5, so the next step to making MWO2 is to establish servers and network infrastructure. It's not easy, but most of the hard work is already done. The main problem PGI has when moving to a "MWO2" is what to do about the content people purchased for MWO, because shifting to a new engine will undoubtedly mean shutting down the old servers. It could very easily backfire and tank the company.

They'd realistically need to port my content over because I'm not likely to move over just to make stepping over rocks less annoying and have a slightly shinier coat of paint.
I imagine the same can be said of a large part of the core audience.

UE5 is a bad engine, the game is doing good, theres little to gain from a big investment. So why?

Obviously because "I thought of it and therefore it should be obvious that it should be done. "

Which means they aren't going to earn ♥♥♥♥ to pay for the sequel's development, no?

Exactly. Which is why they're not planning to do it.

Or they could release a bunch of mechs which don't have updated modern models yet. Strider, Hoplon, Hussar, Mackie, Thug, Wraith, Soldier etc. I have already more than contributed my share of funding the next game. I'd be unwilling to have to pay for the same things again in exchange for a new coat of paint.

You won't have much of a choice when MWO shuts down, and it will eventually shut down. Probably sooner than anybody would guess, since my understanding is that they are going to be working on the spiritual successor next(aka PVP-based game), though it probably won't resemble MWO as much as the current playerbase would like.

If this game shuts down so be it.
I had a lot of fun playing it over the years.
Played hundreds of matches while drinking hundreds of beers. :D:

I wish PGI luck with whatever project that will eventually replace this game.

I think you're interpreting what's most likely to happen through some strangely malicious lense.

Most likely what will happen is they'll make MW4/6 and just include MP into it when MWO finally stops squeezing the last vestige of profit.

I'll buy a new game. I won't drop hundreds of dollars again like I have for MWO. Especially considering how bad MWO's reputation was. I didn't get the game until it's prime was long gone. If they launch it like MWO was before or even like it is now, it will fail to attract players who left. And the current players will have no reason to switch.

If they release a normal not F2P game, that's a different thing entirely.

Edit: Because to clarify, there is a choice for the MWO2 situation, if they shut down MWO and have MWO2, the obvious choice is to stop playing and go play something else. But I doubt that's what they're going to do.
