Granted there was a similar weapon in the previous game, MechWarrior 4, but it was an Inner Sphere weapon and was also not canon. It was just a continuous (read: had a 0-second cooldown time plus a 0.25 second beam "duration" so it fired 4 times per second) laser that had almost a full kilometer's maximum range and reasonable DPS for an energy weapon.
I could try to guess at what PGI's idea of the lore would be, but I doubt it would be very interesting.
Ahh figures. Me and my buddies started thinking its a new weapon for new lore stuff. X Pluse laser entry emplies that the tech can be used to improve clan pulse lasers. (by explicitly stating that it has never been done yet) and that this is the bi-product of them actually pulling it off.
Well give it however many years, I come back, now there's lasers that do 18 damage(?) - and I notice the Deathstrike I just got from the event can carry 6 of them. So I futz with it until firing a 2x2x2 salvo just overheats for 1-2 seconds.
On paper it does 108 damage in 2 seconds. I purposefully only do it to players who don't see it coming.
And clans had already created a long range pulse lasers, they are called ER pulse lasers. Yes clans had literally merged ER and pulse tech. Something IS science thinks is impossible. Bam done. To be fair it was considered experimental at the time of the clans invasion, and fell into obscurity during the whole Word of Blake thing, but had resurfaced further down the timeline and is in use now.
Beam laser is just a PGI BS. Just like their interpretation of X-pulse laser. Or Plasma Cannons if that matters.
Not my fault that Gargoyle has space for a lot of large pulse lasers.
I shot them so badly that they accused me of using a special new weapon.
That special new weapon became a myth amongst inner sphere but it was all just large pulse lasers.
Another interesting thing about Gargoyle is that it is the old Atlas.
Makes it suitable why to be feared when it was made to be fearful. And it was as Gargoyle infinite lazer of death spread across the battlefield the inner sphere thought It was a poltergeist of the past.
Want to know more why Gargoyle is named gargoyle?
It is so ugly and dreadful to look upon that even death will be fearing to look upon it.
