It can hold much more firepower than the Summoner and has higher mounted weapons so no ground shots.
I def like that. been having fun in my crab with 2 er large lasers. 3 medium lasers.
Ebon Jaguar is really good with lasers. I'm running 2 large pulse lasers and 2 ER medium lasers, all in the torso. Can run it cold too with a load of heatsinks.
So if you're looking for the more powerful of the two, youll likely want that.
Although Russ did say the "clan dogs" aka sh-t clan mechs, are getting some love soon, I wouldnt hold my breath.
Summoner already has quite nice movement perks.
Summoner, well, all it's got going for me is JJ (which in this game... not really excuse for the other things it lacks) and memories of old mechwarrior game performances.
I wouldn't base your decision on quirks, they change like the wind...
The small quirks it has currently don't usually make up for most of the failings of the build. Most builds honestly only have the firepower of a medium mech at best and all in low mounted arm hardpoints that also happen to be wide enough that they shield a little bit and get shot off.
It has jump jets, but they don't tend to help much for the tonnage they waste. It also doesn't have endosteel which leaves it with even less tonnage.
Good choice.
If you ever manage to get into CW later you can take up to 4 65 ton mechs, if you happen to like them enough.
Yeah, and the Cauldron-born isn't exactly comparable to the Summoner in terms of their role on the battlefield. The Summoner is a heavy Flanker, while the EBJ is a weapon plattform, designed to ambush the enemy.
In terms of how MWO divides them.. Summoner is a Charlie lance Mech, while EBJ is a Bravolance mech. Summoner is there to provide fire support from the backrow, and flank the enemy as necessary.
The EBJ is a front row mech. And yes, you have to play the Summoner different from an EBJ and if you only compare the damage numbers the EBJ clearly wins... But if we are talking about that, why are we even talking about the EBJ in the first place? The Timberwolf does a so much better job. If we just go by weight class.
The Summoner, depending on your build, is a great mech to shut down Medium and Light Flankers with. You can use it like a heavy Hunchback IIC.
If you compare it to the Wolverine for example.. you have a similar mech, that can eat 20 points more damage to the CT.
There is a place for them on the battlefield. And if you have a Unit mate that drops with a Shadowcat you can let the Shadowcat do its poking and use the Summoner to fill the role as Flanker and flanking protection. Or work with a Nova and Summoner team. The Summoner effectively working like an Assault to take the brunt of the damage while he and the Nova take down the enemy flanking protection. Both mechs have jump jets, and can do quite a nice job keeping up with each other.
Its not exactly a case of "everything the summoner does the EBJ does better". And yes, if we are talking about the two of them meeting on a plane playing field the EBJ outguns the Summoner.. but that is the EBJs job. While the summoner is made to move, flank and be a skirmisher. The EBJ is a poker and a brawler.
An intelligently played Summoner can be quite dangerous, due to its ability to come from positions you do not expect it to be in.
But i am biased. As Light and Medium pilot, i am one of those Flankers and i do not really find the idea of stepping in front of the enemy to unload into them to be all that appealing. Being constantly on the move, getting at the enemy where they do not expect it.. that is where the fun is for me... and the Summoner does a splendid job for that.
It being a Super Heavy Medium is its appeal.
